No gas Stabilizer in NZ - Can I make my own?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

New Zealand appears wholly unaware of using Stabilizer to lengthen shelf life of stored gasoline, none of any type/brand to be found! Can any commonly availabe ingredient be used that will provide any useful reduction in gasloine's chemical reactions which limit its life? A neighbor suggested methenol? Brad in New Zealand

Hi Bradley, I have found the same thing when looking for stabilizer here in NZ. Although I have found that petrol works ok in older cars and motorbikes even when left sitting in those vehicles for 6 months or more! Maybe an issue with modern highly tuned cars though

The oil companies claim that gas will be OK for a year or so.

If there is no oil for a full year where do you think you are going to go anyway? ;-)
