FOX Y2K coverage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Local FOX station (WGHP in High Point, NC) just had about 10 minutes of Y2K coverage at the top of the 6 o'clock news. Included a lead in that many people are storing extra food and water with the ususal comments about how much money has been spent to fix the problem and that gov, utils, and banks are in good shape. Followed this with a piece on Triton water bottlers have a booming business due to people storing water for Y2K. Also mentioned that a local retailer had just called in a new order because their dist. center had run out of water. Third story was on the Forsyth County, NC sheriffs dept. About special equip. that was purchased and on the training they have been conducting, etc. Overall pretty worthwhile coverage

Interesting thing, the rush to set aside water. In readinbg through all the "scenarios" that have been put forth in the last 2 years, not once did I come across any one of them that got close to suggesting that WATER would be the first of the commodities to realize a demand peak or spot shortages.
