Appeal to Sysops

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I commend the overtime job you all have been doing in keeping the troll droppings cleared out of TB2000. With 3 days to go until rollover, the trolls have begun to dominate this forum, rendering it nearly unuseable. It will get worse. I would like to suggest that for the next three days the sysops be ruthless with the delete key. Some legitimate posts could get deleted by mistake, but I think we could all understand. If mine gets deleted I hereby promise not to whine.

There will be no response from me to trolls on this thread.

Sounds like a great idea to me!!

Please delte the troll rubbish. Time is growing short and there are many postings of very good information. We don't have time to weed through the troll dirt.

Also please delete the conspiracy theorists. Whether they are right or wrong, it has nothing to do with Y2k. Thank you.

A few threads back I posted a quick note concerning a HVAC failure. I apologize for the manner in which I posted this message. I assure you I am not a troll. I work for a major east coast food company (sorry that's all I can tell you). Around 1:30 (13:30) this afternoon the main Research office experienced a HVAC failure, this affects only a limited portion of the plant. I reported this in a hurry because we had to leave the office due to excessive heat (+92 and rising fast when I left). At this point the SAR team has still not determined the nature of the failure. Hopefully tomorrow when I return I can get some info. I do know that certain areas of the plant were doing testing (that's the reason for the hurried post before). Thanks for listening

Ps - While the name I use may seem sort of derogatory, I picked it one day after reading some humorous posts on the forum. I am a member of a global Y2K remediation team and take this very seriously. I also post under 2 other serious names on this forum.

Just caught the tail end of it.

We *are* deleting certain trollish ones on sight.

What a waste of energy.

*Sigh*

Thanks, Diane. It is probably too much to ask, given the time the sysops already have to spend deleting the obvious spamming trolls, but I had hoped that known and suspected troll posts on the legitimate threads could be deleted for the next few days, too. I understand that would entail having to read most of the threads, as well as make judgement calls that some might protest.

Thanks for whatever you're able to keep cleaned up. Oh, by the way, someone is impostering me...the "arse" post above is not from me. Also noticed him/her posting on other threads using my handle. Whoever you are, I would sincerely appreciate you getting your own handle.
