O.T. Can't Stop Thinking About Las Vegas - Is It A Target For Terrorists?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

On December 14 authorities caught Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian, smuggling nitroglycirin, other explosives, and timing devices into the U.S. from Canada. He was ticketed from Canada to Seattle, and from Seattle to Las Vegas. It was reported in an AP wire report that he had a partner, another Algerian, who authorities are still looking for as a suspected accomplice. The partner was also ticketed from Canada to Seattle, and from Seattle to Las Vegas. Where is this partner??? Did he fly on to Las Vegas and is there now? Perhaps he didn't board the plane, and simply slipped un-noticed across the border and is now in Las Vegas. Within 24 hours of the report of Ressam being caught, there was a report of dynamite being stolen from a remote Arizona mining shack. Putting two and two together, I can't help but think that Las Vegas is a primary target for terrorists. The Middle East people despise westerners for their decadent ways, and to a person from the Middle East, Las Vegas (or Hollywood) represents Western decadence. The government has said that Washington, New York, and Seattle are targets, but I can't help thinking that putting together the events surrounding the capture of Ressam, Las Vegas is a primary target

Didn't you see "The Stand"? Satan's corporate headquarters are in Vegas! Gambling is a SIN!!

When God starts inflicting his punishment upon the sinners of the world, he is going to start in Vegas! He will shoot lightning bolts through all of the slot machines, frying the gamblers, and he will say it was just a Y2K malfunction!!!

Repent now! Go to gambleholics anonymous and pray for mercy!

Send all of your money to this charity now and you will be forgiven:

Andy and Hawk... what a pair, what a pair... Linda, assuming this terrorism thing is not hype (personally I don't think it is... but that counts for little) anywhere might be a target. The simplest way to avoid being a victim is stay away from places that might be called "lucrative targets". Such a target is a place where there is a tightly packed crowd of people... in particular a place where running people will have difficulty leaving the 'kill zone' which is what the target zone for the attack is called in military circles. Terrorists have won when you allow them to cause you to fear them... Dont.

Linda; To answer your question;"Where is his partner" ? Could be that this person is traveling to Hoover Dam, what better place to drop a small device over the wall into the turbines??? Talk about power outage ! I think Hoover dam delivers power to many states in that area. That way they would keep the lights out for a good many people and businesses. Besides all that money that would be held up in vaults for a good long time...

Hey Mike... number one most important survival asset in any situation... a sense of humor. It was a joke, lighten up.

Linda, quit worrying and have fun! We could all die tomorrow, but you are not going to enjoy your time in Vegas if you are terrified. The reason they call them terrorists is because they like to terrify people, and you are playing right into their hands. They RARELY actually do anything dangerous.

Hey Hawk; Number one most likely to get you killed in a crisis poor personality attribute -- A STUPID SENSE OF HUMOR -- I have seen you be insulting to a number of people today and say things today like "Bring on the Nukes" all day long. Grow up.

Andy, I'm impressed.

Oooooh, Mr. Serious! Why don't you explain to me exactly who I "insulted" by saying "bring on the nukes"? You're the one who needs to grow up if you can't handle someone disagreeing with you without letting your self-esteem being hurt. Sheeesh, go whine somewhere else.

I don't think the Russians view Las Vegas as a big threat, probably not a first target, Area 51 that's another story.

Check out "Streisand Tickets," at http://www.ebay.com

There are 21 sets of tickets for sale and only 3 of them have bids.

Two sets of $3000 face-value tickets have bids of $1125 and $1000 respectively. A pair of $5000 tickets has a high bid of $285.

These are all for the sold-out show on NY Eve and I would never have guessed that tickets could be purchased for 1/3 (or less) of their cost. I would say that some people are getting it.

I wouldn't go if you paid me.
