Tomorrow is December 28th - What Do You Think Will Happen???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For a number of weeks there's been reports that December 28th would be the day that some sort of national emergency is declared. We know by recent documents that December 28th is the date that FEMA will officially begin to monitor developments. Tomorrow is December 28th. Does anyone have any updated information on anything happening? Has Clinton scheduled any television time for tomorrow? Does anyone have any thoughts on what, if anything, may happen??

Personal opinion only:

Nothing official will happen tomorrow. If .gov was going to do something, they would need a reason to do it, and the party line is there will be no problems with the CDC. How would people react if for months .gov told them not to prepare and then enacted some draconian measures *before* any actual problems occurred? I would think badly at best. Therefore, I believe that .gov will do nothing overtly except "plan for contigencies" until rollover so that they can say they are reacting to someone else's problem, and not creating one themselves.

Sadly,

Nothing out of the ordinary will happen tomorrow. I have never thought that anything will happen regarding Y2K until after January 1, 2000.

All we have seen is one big Dog and Pony Show. Nothing will happen tomorrow (28th) except more shouting about terrorist activities that don't even exist. Heightened state of alert, Canadian border stories (re-hash, re-hash), Indian Air hijack, and the typical stupid polly crap the media is paid to put out. Staged interviews with "people in the know who have nothing to gain" that will tell you the same government line. Nothing will happen unless the people panic or brain-fart and cause a reaction.

January 1st, OTOH, is a different story. January 3rd, more so yet. Then you have the 4th. That is the day that all the stock exchanges are to be fully on-line and everything should be interactive that will be (IMHO). By the end of that day, you may see what the trend will be. My opinion ? We won't have the real story until MAYBE that following Friday, which is almost a week later. By then if all is OK, I will stand down a notch or two. Until then, eyes and ears 24/7.

I think there may be an earthquake in Jeruselum tomorrow.

Nothing at all...

If things were showing signs of the panic we almost all felt would be raging by now, 28 Dec would certainly be he start of Martial Law in key areas.

Since the public is still heavily sheepnotized, all that's going to happen is that the FEMAcrats are going to drink coffee and eat donuts at a desk in a bunker instead of at their regular desks.

Starts Friday at your local gas station!! And Spreads from there into the eve.

Chances of terrorism and what the effects will be!! viruses etc. And we are only into the first day. Any sabotage from remediators!! ?? incredible to consider all this before the show begins.

Ah yes-- the illustrious 20th century in all its glory!!!

In all probability, nothing. I discussed this as "widespread rumor" a few days ago. Nothing has changed since.

I maintain that the real .gov Y2K action must wait for Y2K to actually arrive.

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. Other than that, nothing unusual. I don't beleive we will hear anything from the government unless all hell breaks loose.

-- Linda A. (adahi@muhlon.com), December 27, 1999.

Nothing overt.

Just everybody scrambling with last minute rollover watch "getting ready" activities.

The 28th? Hmmm....Clinton will be on 60 Mins...depending on what exactly he says about potential Y2K problems; I very much doubt it will be martial law at this time....but....who knows?

The 28th, is also when many of the Fed and State bunkers start their roll over monitoring...who knows?

The 28th is also the second day that many computers will be forward looking to the next week? Ya think it will make the news, if/when they crash? Nahhhh...me either.

Hope all your preps are in order! I won't be disappointed if my house doesn't burn down, just because I have insurance! Likewise, I won't be disappointed if Y2K is just a BITR, just because I have insurance!

Somebody, somewhere will have a flat tire. This one event will spiral into many concurrent events which will bring the downfall of the Kansas City Chiefs. It will happen tomorrow.

Expect the Central Business Districts (CBD) of big US cities to all be in a similar state, with access to certain areas only by previous written authorization from Local Law Enforcement Offices and also requiring appropriate identification papers.

Carefully controlled access will last for a time period of 24 hours beginning shortly before the rollover, on Friday 12/31/99 6:00 am, and lasting shortly after rollover, until Saturday 1/1/00 6:00 am. But don't be surprised to read reports, after the fact, of time periods being extended.

The 28th is the last trading day for stocks for settlement in 1999. The NY Merc announced last Friday that it would not re-open on Jan 3 for Y2K. Will the equity markets make the same announcement after the close of trading?

Aaaah, come on Butt Nugget. Lay off the KC Chefs (intentional, you have to know the commercial). They're the only reason I ever turn the tv on. Cheap entertainment.

-- lvz (realdogand pony show@kcchiefs.com), December 28, 1999.

Nothing, except I'll buy a couple cases of snicker bars and pronounce my preparations finished. There are other things on my list, but I think I'm going to toss the list. I'm ready for alot more than I expect, and I expect a serious, long-term global depression.

The speculation about martial law prior to the CDC is downright silly.

-- Gus (y2Kk@usa.net), December 28, 1999.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that Butt Nugget in fact underestimated.........not only will one person somewhere have a flat tire, but perhaps even two or three people will get flat tires........

Also, the earthquake will not in fact be in Jerusalem but rather in Southern California.............at least a 5.8..........

Clinton, realizing that tomorrow never comes, will schedule television time to address the issues of our ludicrous "war on drugs" and our volatile prison overcrowding situation.
