Y2K Tab Is $2 Billion - (CHICAGO) -- The top 40 companies in Chicago have spent two-BILLION-dollars making sure the Y-Two-K computer bug doesn't bite them this coming weekend. "The Chicago Tribune" reports that Chicago-area hospitals alone have spent more than 50-Million-dollars to install new M-R-I machines in each hospital. The state Toll Highway Authority also spent 14-and-a-half-Million-dollars to become Y-Two-K compliant But some economists say the spending has been a good thing, providing thousands of jobs for high-tech workers and forcing the nation to update its technology.
