Which Target Are YOU spending New Years At?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Not for nothin, but this shit is getting a bit old. Y2K=Terror accrording to TPTB.

IT IS OK FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE TO BE AFRAID OF A CARBOMB BUT NOT Y2K!

Guiliani said it best today, you have a much greater risk of being in an auto accident than the victim of a terrorist attack. WND is playing right into their hands. Sensation sells. Yeah, baby yeah!

Here's a curious thing that happened to me last Wednesday, true story. I was driving by a place near midnight that I would consider to be a useful target for terrorist activity (I'm afraid I'd prefer not to mention even vague details, for fear of giving anyone any ideas for mischief that they hadn't already thought of). Ahead of me a few hundred yards, maybe a hundred feet up in the air, a bright light blossomed. I'd say it was no bigger than a basketball, if that. There was a trail of light as it sank, going from a whitish to a greenish light until it blinked out. I was trying not to swerve off the road, but to the best of my estimation I was seeing in front of trees. I swung around and headed over to the nearest cop shop to report it. I was airily informed by the lad on duty that maybe it was fireworks, and he didn't bother to take my name. I said I was concerned that that area would be a perfect venue for Y2k terrorist activity. He said yeah, we're watching out.

I've lived here for 14 years, never saw fireworks there before. Never had meteorites throw themselves right in my face like that either. Still don't know what it was. A flare sent up? But I think I'll avoid the place at rollover, just in case.

Gordon: I completely agree......I kept the TV off for the 23rd, 24th and 25th and have generally avoided it today, I got so sick of hearing about the terrorists lurking around every corner. It's amazing, too, how transparent this whole terrorism angle seems to me. Couldn't be more obvious.

Let me clarify that I DO think that terrorism IS a credible threat. But actually, it is ALWAYS a threat. And whoever said that you are more likely to be in a car accident was right--in my commute I drive all the major freeways in Dallas (all the biggies) and see at LEAST three accidents DAILY. Saw a guy on a motorcycle killed when he was smashed between a semi and an Explorer. I swear I have nightmares about wrecking on those roads. Everyone is driving 70 and is 3 inches apart.

Anyway, love the last headlines!

Personally I feel all this terrorist garbage is a ploy to hide the real danger, which of course is the Y2k. Diversion of attention from the real thing. Like a made up war to draw attention away from the originator of "I did not have sex with that woman." There is so much about the terrorists, and so little about Y2K, which makes it so obvious.

If the FBI is so concerned about terrorist why the VERY VISIBLE presence. I think that the whole terrorist scheme is a an attempt to fill the newsmedia with copy that doesn't have y2k as the headline. The story is certainly possible and all lies should have at least a part and parcel of truth. Another thing that has been floating around in the space between my ears is how is Greenslave going to add liquidity should the rollover lead to a market dive? What could he do that wouldn't remove all creditability in our currency?

They lie, they lie, and then they lie some more.

Meanwhile they trot all over the country and look like they are actually doing something. As this administration knows reality is whatever the press tells them it is. This beats attacking a threat that even the media elite don't understand.

Here's a real understatement from the Mohave Vallery News:

snip,

--Another fear is potential sabotage of dams. Davis Dam, an earth filled , 200-foot-high struction, is approximately two miles upstream from Laughlin and Bullhead City and both communities could suffer if the dam were to be breached.

end snip,

'COULD SUFFER if the dam were to be breached! If Davis Dam lets go cities are going to get washed away, and thousands of people will suffer a fate a whole lot like death.

In the near term I'm more concerned about people created problems than I am with how Y2K affects machines. Longer term I believe the computer/chip/programming issues will swat us pretty hard....

Terrorists fall under the people issues column. I do think the terrorism angle is being played up by the administration but I also think it should as I believe it's a real issue. That it will dissuade some folks from going out on the town strikes me as a benefit as well. Is it taking peoples attention away from Y2K, yes, most definitly. At this point on the 26th I can't imagine many people turning over a new leaf and becoming GI's anyway so I don't imagine it's a "net-harmful" move. More people could potentially be saved by encouraging them to stay home...just a possibility though.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist this. I'll try to use the correct nomenclature.

Doomer trolls get over the terrorist cover issue. It is getting more press because it is more believable by Tom, Dick and Harry; and it is probably the more reasonable threat to your short-term health. The visible "full court press" by the alphabet agenciess is because of the immovable time table with which we are working. They don't have time for the sophisticated methods of infiltration and surveillance. Terrorism has been this pollies worry for the last year. I live in Oklahoma and see the longterm affects of terrorist activity and how it can actually happen.

This forum is certainly interesting. God Bless. Boomer Sooner.

After Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols bombed the Oklahoma City Federal Building and were awaiting trial there was a big push for the Clinton Administration and the Justice Department to take away a number of our liberties, with little outcry from the American people. We were told it was in our best interests.

I believe we are being set up again to believe that our lives are in jeopardy and will only be safe if we allow the federal government to take certain actions which include taking away liberties and rights. Keep in mind that we all know what the increased activity by federal agencies in many larger cities is for. And it's not all for terrorism. It will be interesting to see what liberties we will be asked to forfeit in the coming weeks.

It's also damn frightening what little public discussion there is about Y** (shhh)

If the feces does come into contact with the rotating oscilator I want some protection from the masses that would want to run amuck if there were no electricity. Personally, I have noticed no difference in my liberties since 1992 and have not felt as if I were under the control of The Man.

I had such a difficult time deciding between: Fiji, Jerusalem, Cairo, Paris, London, New York, London, and an absolutely WILD party in Beverly Hills, that I finally ended up deciding to say home and maybe go to the local Church for a quiet prayer.
