The best books are articles on that subject are:

W. K. Wimsatt, "Poe and 'The Mystery of Marie Roget' ," PMLA (Publications of the Modern Language Association), 61, 1941, pp. 230-248.

Raymond Paul, "Who Murdered Mary Rogers?" NJ: Pretnice-Hall, Inc., 1971.

A few years ago there was a musical play in the Netherlands for wich I produced the idea and contributed as a composer. The play was a mixture of E.A.Poe's "The Mystery of Marie Roget", Raymond Pauls "Who Murdered Mary Rogers" and other true and untrue facts and rumours about the mysterious death of the "beautiful Cigar girl", especially the bizarre idea that Edgar Allen Poe himself was involded in one way or another. Since then I,m very interested in the history surrounding this.
