OT--Merry Christmas To All!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It's 11:47 on Christmas Eve as I type this; Santa is on his way and I'm worn out from too much eggnog and too many packages to wrap. I don't know about anyone else but I'm going to have a busy, fun, peaceful, worryfree Christmas and I hope all of you do also.

Best Christmas wishes to all of you (even the pollies) and may we all remember whose birth we're celebrating and why.

To all of you I want to tell you something about a special treasure that God gave to us that is worth more to me and my wife than any treasure on the top side of this earth. Words are not able to express the love this treasure from God above has given to us. My wife and I are at this moment 68 years old, we have been married since we were 16 in 1948, a long story I will not go into here. This treasure is a ten year old daughter. This is a long story and I will tell it to you. My nephew and his wife has several children, incidently they are now divorced, but let me get back to the story. At that time ten years ago they were together as a happy family, however when Jane, (Not her real name) told my wife she was pregnant she was pregnant, she was very upset, they could not afford another one. She wanted to know if she had an abortion would her soul go to hell, and my wife assured her that it would, if she did not ask for forgiveness. Instead of asking for forgiveness, she schedualed an abortion. This was days before she was to be delivered. My wife talked her out of the abortion because we certainly do not approve of murder in any fashion and especially of the unborn. This did the trick, my wife convinced Jane that murder is also a sin and one can go to hell for that. It took Jane a few days to come to a decision. Just a few hours before the appointment for the abortion she decided not to do it. She had a little baby girl. Of course they could not take care of her, although they tried. So we took the baby, just days old and kept her as legal guardians, and we fell in love with her. So we asked Jane and Bob,(not his real name) if we could adopt her. They had also fell i love with the little girl, Lisa (not her real name) after a couple of years deliberations, they all at once decided to let us keep her. We went through the normal adoption procedures, there were no hangups, every thing went so smooth. The adoption became final. Lisa has our last name, and Jane out of respect for me and my wife changed the baby's first name to that of my wife. We have had Lisa almost since she was born, ten years ago. There is no way under heaven to describe how she has filled our humble home with happiness. Needless to say we have spoiled her rotten, which we enjoyed doing. Lisa is now in the fifth grade, a beautiful little lady, and everybody who comes in contact with her immediatly falls in love with her. Now you tell me if anybody could get a more priceless gift than this. We were 62 years old when we became parents again. We have two grown sons who them selves have grown children. I have a grandson in the Army, one in the Navy, and one in the Air Force and they are brothers, sons of my oldest son. God has richly blessed my home, and there is no way under heaven that I am able to thank Him enough. This to me is a christmas miracle, how many sixty two year olds become new parents, we have a birth certificate to prove it. When the adoption became final the state issued a new birth certificate to my wife (62 years old) as the mother with the baby being born 4/1/89 to her. Of course we stapled it to the original birth certificate and put it in her folder along with all her other papers. We also encourage her to visit and love her biological mother and father, never forgetting to love and respect them as well as us, for that, Lisa loves us even more.

Notforlong,

That is a beautiful story. Bless you and yours this season and in the years to come! May God watch over your grandsons as well, and all of the men and women who stand with them as they risk their lives for this nation as soldiers, sailors, AF, police, fire rescue. Bless the doctors and nurses spending time away from home today to man the emergency rooms "just in case".

Dear Notforlong, your life's book story is beautiful! You have a bigger heart than I. We became legal custodians of my two nephews because their parents died. We tried our best for four years, and realized there were younger parents, who could do a much better job. So, we sought out adoptive parents, who would let us remain a part of the family. Heaven sent two younger marrieds who could not have children. They have made such a difference in these childrens lives! We ride over to their house, and they are roller blading, bicycle riding, buzzy bodies!!! And they still get to come spend a weekend at our house! What a Blessing
