Debunking Forum - anyone ever visit?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

since i've never visited, just wondering if anyone from tb2000 has ever spent any time there. not that its [probably] anything more than what's heard from klinton/kosky everyday. but - if there were any optimistic IV&V info out there - i'd love to hear it and have just a little extra peace of mind at this late date.

Answers

No. I just wish that the morons that POST over there would STAY over there.

Any chance that you could pop over there yourself ?

Or would that be too much like hard work ?

(BTW. How are you enjoying the break from college ?)

I'ld give you a hotlink, but they're not on my favs list. I don't save insults, or kindergarten level discussions. <:(=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), December 24, 1999.

I have made a few quick visits just to observe. Believe me...it is not a pretty sight. As far as I can determine, it is a small group of hardcore regulars who divide their time on their forum between...

a) Smug verbal back slapping each other for how intelligent they consider themselves.

b) Formulating new and different ways to insult, offend and otherwise disrupt anybody and any forum that dares to disagree with them.

Whatever happened to "agree to disagree?"

Some of them may well be extremely intelligent, professional people. Unfortunately for the debate, that intelligence does not always show.

I've visited from time to time, but if you think minds here are closed, you ain't seen nuthin. As you might expect, that forum has few contributors. If people think y2k is no problem, all but the loonies have better things to do with their lives. And the loonies are too busy calling names to read what you write. In general, not a fun way to spend your time.

Here you go...

HOTLINK

You shouldn't post there unless you REALLY want to be flamed alive. Those people (for the most part) are complete jackasses....

-- Dennis (djolson@pressenter.com), December 24, 1999.

I stopped in and looked around, many moons ago.

I was kinda hoping they would have legitimate polly discussion about why things will be just like normal next year.

No such luck. Mostly all I saw was them discussing ways to disrupt other forums.

Need some clorine in the gene pool.

If you had genuinely wanted to learn all you could about Y2k, the personalities and/or posting "styles" of a few on Debunker wouldn't have mattered to you.

Obviously, if you haven't been reading that forum you have no idea how much information you missed out on. I have seen a ton of facts posted there that (for rather obvious reasons) never get posted on TB2000.

If this forum is the only site you visit, then you have only been exposed to one point of view (in spite of the admirable efforts of Flint, Decker and Hoff). People around here still hold up select reports, documents or announcements as though they are sacred revelations from on high. Often these same reports etc. have been discussed/researched on other forums and the conclusions reached are entirely different than the ones reached here. Again, if you have not read these other forums you have no idea of the facts they presented during those discussions. Perhaps if you had read them you wouldn't be nearly as frightened as you are now.

Bottom line: If you only "shop" here, you'll only "buy" here.

lou...

I have visited the "debunking" site a few times. To be honest with you, I visited for educational purposes; I was trying to gather information to convince me that Y2K was not really an issue and not to worry. Unfortunately what I found was educational, but not the type of education I was seeking. I find it interesting that TB2K posts information relevant to the Y2K issue. The debunking site is full of a bunch of name-calling, mud-slinging losers who have no clue as to how to "inform" the masses with substantive information to support the case that Y2K is a dud.

Enjoy the debunker site if thats what "jingles your bells". But for me, I want information and an education. I'll leave the name-calling and other trash to socialist-liberals and children.

Merry Christmas Lou...

Nothing in this world infuriates me more than a bunch of loser, liberal, mudslinging, socialists who have to revert to name calling. I have never seen name calling take place on TB2000 and that is why I am a 9.8. I realize that being only a 9.8 at this late date makes me a polly/scumbag/commie/pinko/Klinton supporter/draftdodging/wacko/kook/liberal/socialist/dum dum, but none of you would ever call me that. I love you guys.

Bu** Nu**** (I won't spell out your handle and I find being lectured by someone bearing same quite unusal),

I will make my first trip to the "debunkers" and report back provided: I don't die from boredom; I don't give away my position and die from my wounds; I don't find something better to do because of the holiday; you all don't find something better to do becasue of the holiday and loose interest, or; I am taken prisoner.

Lou,

I know you are OK. Why not just have fun with the holidays?

I too visited the debunking forum, but it was too much like being back in high school. (shudder)

Being surrounded by insecure 14-year-olds is my idea of hell.

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr (pic), near Monterey, California

After I first realized, back in January, that Y2K had the potential to be a show stopper, I spent the next few months visiting every so-called "polly" site I could find. I was looking for any convincing evidence that massive disruptions were not possible. Although government and business have spent trillions of dollars mostly to convince us that there is no problem, I didn't find a shred of encouraging information. Most of the smooth talkers are in the employ of government and corporations as spokes models. Some of these may be posting here. Of the remainder, very few can string together a coherant sentence. The ones who can post here. Those who can't post elsewhere. Time is short. Don't waste your time with them.

The debunking forum is a rowdy place, but at least nobody has ever tried to sell a baby on it. .. .

That family should be allowed to place the baby with a GI family if they feel this is in the best interests of the child. Personally, I believe it would be best if a GI family could be found to take in both the baby and the teen, but it's not my call. I didn't see any indication that they were asking to be paid for the baby.

Even if the family is a bunch of strangers on the internet? Ok, sure. . ..

Maybe ask Doc Paulie about complete strangers on the Internet. [The guy who owns and operates the Bonkers board.]

"As most know by now, my Holiday has been the best ever thanks to a little lady from these parts named Patricia. Miracles DO happen. I am eternally grateful for all of what has transpired over these many months from all of you. Been a ride, and I even found my soul-mate :)"

Maybe ask Doc Paulie about complete strangers on the Internet.

I probably could, but what would he know about offering up your child to strangers on the internet? . .. .

-- (duh@duh.duh), December 26, 1999.

Well start with this: he offered up himself to one.

But he's not a week-old infant. . . ..
