What I heard at the bank yeasterday

I was at the BofA bank on 12/22 and over hear this customer talking to a teller as she caches his check talk about how his place where he works just "tested" their computers and they all froze. He said he worked at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield Mo. They are a fairly large employer out here and have a great mail order business. What was funny was the teller was telling him "well they should have tested their computers before. Like we did five or six years ago." After he left their was a lot of talk behind the counter about when the bank really did start testing and how they are hearing more and more about problems at customers business. By the way he did "cash" the check and did not deposit.

Finally, the fish and chips problem is acknowledged. . . .

I've been cashing checks and taking out $$ for the last week. Even asked for $500 in all fives and tens. The tellers *do* seem peeved, but maybe it is just the time of year to be peeved. Still, they do it for me, so I am not complaining!

Banks first experienced the Y2K problems several years back, when credit cards and ATM cards were first issued with year 2000 expiration dates. The statement that the teller made was entirely credible.

If I remember, many customers lost their cards in machines that thought that their cards had expired many years ago.

I guess that in this respect the banks had the great fortune of considerable fore warning. This doesn't mean that the problem is fixed though.
