electric industry issues truck bomb warning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

NBC is reporting that the electric industry is warning power facilities to be on the lookout for a blue (I think they said blue) Mitsubishi van with Texas plates driven by two Middle Eastern men. The van might contain a bomb and heading for the Washington DC area they reported.

Calvert Cliffs is located there.

DOE and weapons facilities have increased security, nuclear plants have not.

Thanks Rick. I'm doing a presentation for my Officers next week and I'm creating a time line of happenings from July through to the present. It is getting quite lengthy....

I don't mean to be a party pooper but the case of the blue van has been closed. Allowing a little intelligence on the part of the would be terrorists suggests that they may have sufficient brains to change cars as they go about their ungodly business.

and then there was this article about Suitcase Nukes in National Post.

An indication of the level of tension came late Thursday, when a "threat advisory" was circulated to the nation's electric utilities, including operators of nuclear power plants, warning them to be on the lookout for a blue 1989 Mitsubishi van with Texas license plates that had earlier been the subject of an FBI alert. "Expect the vehicle to be carrying 'explosives,'" read the electric industry warning, which sources said was being circulated by the North American Electric Reliability Council with the approval of law enforcement officials. The advisory added that the van "was last seen in the Washington, D.C. area with two Middle Eastern males in the vehicle."

This reads like something out of a proposed sequel for the movie Dumb and Dumber.

"Hey. Lookee there. They're talkin' 'bout us on TV. Maybe we otta get a new van.... Now, where the heck did we put all them splosives?...."
