Dec 26th Power Grid Test-Power Surges Expected

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The following from one of the ABList members who has been an excellent source of information; I have been quite busy working with the local RED Cross these past weeks as they prepare for the year 2000, filling containers with food, water, and warm clothing. I have been told that a week from tomorrow, (that's the 26th of Dec.) there is going to be a major SHUT-DOWN of power plants across the U.S. As they come back on line to the grid (if they can) there will be POWER SURGES in many areas. You would be advised to UN-PLUG all computers, internet units,tv,sterio,AC powered ham radios, and anything else that would be harmed by power surges in your home or work place. Everyone should have a back-up lighting, heating units close at hand. I don't think you are going to get this warning from the news media as it has been a word of mouth policy as not to create panic. It is a nation wide test which will determine which power plants are still running, and which are not. In an area where a plant failed the power from another plant will be sent along the grid to that failed area. This could cause a back-out/brown-out, and power surge to the area which will then provide low power from the plants in oeration along the grid to the plant/plants that cannot produce on their own. Like robbing Peter to pay Paul, this will be a quick-fix patch and as for the timing of all Y2k related failures, power is #1 priority and the need to know before Jan 1, 20000 so that FEMA, Local and Govt. will have a few days to prepare NOTIFICATION. Thank you for this warning! Much appreciated!

There will be no major shut down of power plants on the 26th. This is all crap.

Troll alert! Don't buy that load of apples folks, they're rotten!

Can anyone verify this? Am not doubting Mat's word or his source but it would seem too critical an event to keep under wraps. Maybe this is public knowledge and I just missed it. Please enlighten us if you work for an electric utility. What's going on here?

well kids,

"a week from tomorrow" is not Dec 26th.

A "week from tomorrow" is Dec 31st.

I'm pretty sure that's when the only test of "the grid" is scheduled.

Somebody else posted this same thread a few days ago. Or, maybe it was the same person with a different handle. Complete fabrication.

mcjoline.com does not exist per Internic Whois...

Nice try.

Maybe www.mcjoline.com was abducted by one of Decker's aliens? Maybe we should delete this thread?

The url is http://www.mcjonline.com/news/news3693.htm (note 'online' not 'oline') and the text is about Clinton having 50 emergency declaration docs on his desk. I didn't see anything about a power test. Looking 'trollish' to me...

Mat, thanks for the info. Don't let the trolls discourage you.

Sorry, I went to town for awhile. I posted this because I had just received it myself. The person that e-mailed this to me had gotten the same story from 2 different sorces. I don't know if it is true or not, my intention was to share it with you and let you decide for yourselves what to do. If it is true and I had done nothing, well I don't want that responsibility. I really hope someone with integerity can verify this one way or another. That is why I posted it. I hope I did not offend anyone, just trying to be helpful.

Mat,

My apologies for jumping the gun about your I.D. It's been a trollish day on the forum...they're crawling all over the place. I do believe your sources have been mislead, but that's still no excuse for slamming your post...I am sorry.

absolutely not true....know from inside sources! I'm not accusing you of trolling though.
