SHORTWAVE BUFFS - Get ready for the rollover with a list of major locations across the globe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Here is a list I got from a map of some major cities in the sequence of time zones through the rollover. Particularly for those with the ability to set preset stations on their shortwave radios, you might want to practice tuning in some of these in order to be ready to get information quickly as events occur across the globe. The bold numbers are the number of hours from when the rollover begins out in the Pacific Ocean. Hopefully between all of us we'll be able to get some good firsthand reports. Good luck.

Here is the map I got these from

1 Kiribati, Chatham Island, Auckland

2 No locations

3 Sydney, Port Moresby

5 Beijing, Hong Kong, Perth

6 Jakarta, Bangkok

Oooops! Map link doesn't work, some kind of Java thing on the CNN page. Also forgot to change that location for hour 9.5 in between time zones. It is supposed to be Tehran not Dhaka.

so here's hoping my Grundig has a non-problematic embedded system. I can't for the life of me figure out how or why it would have problems, but I imagine there are gonna be some surprises....

Now 10:00 Pacific time on the 27th.

We have 78 short hours until we will start getting reports from English speaking locations in Auckland, New Zealand and the Marshall Islands.

Is anybody able to get any news reports out there on their Shortwave, AM, or Ham radios?

Just want to keep this up top to check which locations are coming up next.

Here's a status board which, if it works as designed, may be a handy reference for checking post-rollover conditions:

International Y2K Cooperation Center - Global Status Watch

Thanks Bardou, for this URL!

Cool, thanks Cherokee. Wonder if they will be allowed to put the truthful status on that chart.

Well, now at 5:00 Pacific time, the rollover is now happening in Australia.
