MITRE Leads National Y2K Monitoring Team

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 22, 1999--The MITRE Corporation has been invited by the President's Council on the Year 2000 Conversion to represent the Cyber Assurance National Information Center during the worldwide Y2K rollover. MITRE will be working in the Y2K Council's National Information Coordination Center (ICC).

MITRE, a not-for-profit corporation providing engineering services to the government in the public interest, will be supplying six of its engineers as a public service. It will be the team's facilitator, and serve as an intermediary between private industry and the government.

The ICC is the Federal government's central point for gathering, analyzing and summarizing information on system operations during the Y2K date rollover. The ICC will begin 24-hour operations on December 30, continuing through the first few days of January.

``MITRE brings to the table a strong foundation in information security operations,'' according to John Koskinen, Chair of the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion. ``The company's Y2K home page has a wealth of information for everyone preparing for the rollover. We're pleased to have an organization of this caliber on board.''

In partnership with Veridian, a for-profit global leader in information security and safety, MITRE will be channeling information to and from the private sector in the areas of firewall vendors, security encryption suppliers and virus scanning suppliers. It will also team closely with companies managing security for corporate national and international networks.
