"Its a pretty high-stress job in terms of the competition and the legal issues Microsoft faces."

You mean like 95% of the computer users in the world trying to sue them when Windows comes unglued in January?

"said Maffei, who is leaving to accept an undisclosed position outside the company"

I was going to ask if that "position" might be underground... but then I see:

"would remain at Microsoft through January to help with the transition"

Seems if Y2K was the motivation he wouldn't be there THROUGH January.

As one of the Chief Officers he could have been held liable for Y2K failures, but not since he has resigned. Now that he has submitted his resignation, legally he has resigned. Staying to help the new guy in January doesn't make him still responsible for anything that goes wrong.

Also makes you wonder about Bill Gates hanging out in Australia during the rollover doesn't it? He could already have moved the bulk of his assets to offshore accounts, so if TSHTF he just becomes an Australian citizen and never sets foot in this country again, and they could never get his assets.

Hawk...I have freinds in Australia that will skip his assets and get his as if TSHTF and their new computers with the 'mandatory' Windoze OS falls apart. ;)

LOL Satanta! Yes, I'm sure he would be very "hunted." Knowing that weasel he'd probably get plastic surgery so that nobody would recognize him.
