Protection against humidity and salt and use of a JVC GR-DVM70 Digital Cybercam on a world cruise

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am embarking on an around-the-world cruise the first part of January. How do I best protect my JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVM70 against the effects of high humidity and salt air on and around the ship. Is there a particular bag it should be carried in when not in use? How to prevent sweating in a bag? The manual cautions its use above 80% humidity. I get mixed answers and not real concise, real experience ones from camera shops. I would appreciate any responses.

This is a simple solution for 35mm cameras, and it may work for you. Get a large enough ziplock bag to hold the camera. Put the camera in the bag, so the ziplock is on the bottom. Cut a hole in the bag where the lens is (putting a filter on the lens to cut the hole performs this trick). With the lens punching thru, put a rubber band aroundthe plastic and lens.

I don't know the shape of your camera, so this idea may or may not work.
