This IS a "State of Emergency",do you think the gov. needs to declare martial law? Most of us are staying home this year, and there are a hell-of-a-lot more GI's than there are DGI's,just look around, take a closer look at all the info. Airline's losing business(If any business at all during the roll-over) Exotic areas, hotels, chemical plants(voluntary closures)y2k this y2k that,FBI reports to nationwide police agencies, terrorist threats(hear and abroad),up and down on the market, mergers(in abundance),SPIN everytime you turn around,short-tempers(both sides),etc,etc,etc..... Do you want someone knowing that you are prepping? Next time you visit your local prep area, remember what you answered to the above question. There are a lot more in there than what you think.

Not to be rude, but I've reread this several times and can't figure out what:

>There are a lot more in there than what you think.

means. There are a lot more WHAT in there than what I think?

Feeling awfully confused,

Frank

I think what she means is that there might be more people prepping than you would imagine from the lack of carts full of nothing but water, rice and beans.

This is a valid point. I never did a specific "prep" shop, I just added a bag of rice here and a couple of tins there. I'm not paranoid enough to think that They will track me down after rollover, but I did feel - I have to admit - a little self conscious picking up food that I planned to put in my stock.

However, I do think this is giving JQP way too much credit. Sure, we know that big businesses, utilities and government at all levels are prepping, but JQP just DOESN'T KNOW. Jane Q Public hasn't had a wake up call yet.

I still don't expect to see widescale prepping until the last two days, and maybe not even them.

maybe i am missing something but i STILL DON'T SEE many carts full of prep items!!!?? and i live outside Washington, D.C. Maybe we are just too stinking smart to prep?

Passed two stockers in Walmart last week filling up an end cap with Dinty Moore Stew, soup and Spam. Started to say "nice y2k display" but decided not to. I considered picking up a few more cans but then decided it was too obvious. Head games we play with ourselves. The truth is - no one would have noticed.

Servent,

You are forgetting one small thing: You, I and everyone else in the world *is* Joe Sixpack. I agree...there are a lot more people prepping than we are giving credit to...maybe upwards to 40%-50%.

RJ,

Gimme a break!!!! Maybe 1-3% prepping, maybe.....

Gosh, I hope most people have prepped. Since I didn't, if there are any problems, I won't have to fight anyone for stuff when I go to the store in January.

Gotta go with the 1-3% estimate. Not too many people that I have spoken to over the last year or so have done a thing.

However, I have had a few of these previously unconcerned people (both friends and relatives), try to invite themselves to my place recently.

I'm one of those people that has a hard time saying "no" to people, but I've managed to tell several people that they just can't come - they had their opportunity and chose not to act (I don't think anyone can plead ignorance at this point).

It's been very difficult, but I'm glad I'm sticking to my guns (no pun intended). I would be so angry at myself if I let these people start showing up, that I don't know what I would do.
