YIPES! Close Call! I was almost turned into a Polly,but...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I had almost succumbed to the siren song of the Pollies...The tremendous tide of of the 'Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil' crowd had nearly pulled me under by sheer weight of their numbers.

Even though I watched as deadlines were missed (consistently)and time for testing was squeezed to zero ( even though we were told that testing was as important as the remediation )And even though I know that the leadership of our country will lie on cue to protect the big bank's money interests and his own political hide. And even though I knew that the majority was wrong when they gave our leader a free pass through Monicagate.....I had just about decided that perhaps the majority was right this time.

And then I read the post below..."Y2k will take the world by storm" and suddenly I was back! It occured to me that every time rosy y2k reports have been given ,they are soon flattened by the irresistible logic of field reports from experts with no axe to grind. I've been procrastinating much too long....tomorrow I visit Sams for some serious shopping... better late than never!

You have done well, young citizen. Resist the temptations of the Dark Side [tm].

You will have no problem if your Sam's are anything like ours. To make better use of your time establish your priorities before you hit the store. Do you want buy bottled water or reusable water containers? There are tons of suggested lists, my apporach was to run through several and develop my list around 5 major categories. Remember that you might also need some storage containers. Best of luck to you and any others reading this late in the game.

Got Rice?

It is hard to go on in the face of the normal every day life that seems so permanant. It is really weard to be searching at Lowes, or Home depot for items that pertain to survival, among casual customers searching for items to re-do their home, or those searching for Christmas gifts. Life seems so normal, how could it change so drastically? While getting prep items and the rest of the world goes about such mundane activities sometimes makes me feel like a fool. But when I come back to the web, the real news source, not that stuff that is spoon fed to us, my fait his revived. It is very similiar I find to the faith in God. It is hard to have faith in something that isnot indicated by any of our senses. However when I think back on the times when my simple spoken and unspoken prayers were answered, my faith in God comes flooding back. Same here, I have been associated with our government for over forty years and I know how they operate. When I think of that, I then have my faith in prepping for y2k fortified even stronger than ever. No my friend, never, never trust a word that our government speaks. When they say yes, they actually mean no. When they say light, watch out dark is on the way. They speak with a very forked tongue. Our nation was built around the rich, by the rich and for the rich. Evey thing done is done for their benifit, not yours or mine. Our armies, navies, military of any sort, our congress, our president is for the benefit of the rich. I have no links, just rough personal experience. Prep-Prep-Prep, and prep more.

Citizen, I made my last trip to Costco today. Humdinger. Twilight zone. I almost decided not to go. Have been shopping for Christmas and my daughters birthdays. Everywhere you go, everyone you see....normal. Its like Y2K doesn't exist. So very bizarre. I was actually sitting in the parking lot going through all of the FACTS I know. Its almost like a mantra to me now, it helps me when I start thinking I've lost it.

1. The Government is Preparing.

2. NIST is concerned about embedded chips.

3. Most SME are not compliant, some larger ones are not compliant.

4. Compliant doesn't really mean jack.

5. Russia, Italy, Venezuela, Middle East, Africa, China, Japan.....

etc. etc.

Ladylogic...I truly admire anyone who stands up for his/her beliefs. And I simply have a difference of opinion about y2k. But why, in the face of ridicule, contempt and the possibility of eating large helpings of crow, would I choose to side with those who offer a dismal prospect of the future? I'm either a really weird mashochist, or I have decided that there is ample evidence that there COULD be really BIG problem. Again, the Titanic comes to mind. It's big, it's new,It has the latest technology. Why.. THEY say it's unsinkable!

So, many of the smarter and more sophisticated were not about to be seen as idiots, running around in their pajamas yelling "the sky is falling" No Siree! even though they felt a bump and noticed a slight list, it just wasn't possible ...was it?

Try prepping with a spouse who DWGI. For my fans everywhere JJJJEEEEEESSSSHHHHH. But she was warned every time she pilfers a roll of T.P. from the official stash that gives me an excuse to make another trip to Wally World. Time is short the panic starts next week. Man that blows my mind less than two weeks to rollover.

Do you feel as though you are on the outside looking in, sometimes? I drive along looking out and see new small businesses popping up, I hear announcements on the mainstream radio about events to come -like Super Bowl or city commission plans for a new complex to be built and opened in 2002. I wonder -how can they not see? I know what it takes to build a new retail business - it takes a customer base with spending money and an endless supply of product. *big sigh* this truly would have made a great Twilight Zone episode.

"flattened by the irresistible logic of field reports from experts with no axe to grind"

Too bad we are living in an irresistibly illogical world!
