dental work without novacane

my concern is the need of performing a tooth extraction without pain relief medicine. Is it a viable option to have partener put me to sleep by putting ether on rag and me inhaling it till unconcoius? then performing extraction.

Yes.

I would never do this. Ether vaporizes very quickly, and the vapor is highly explosive. Also, there is not a very great difference between therapeutic dose and lethal dose, especially in the hands of someone who has never handled it before. If you need dental work done, go to your dentist now and get it done. Stock up on dental floss and fluoride rinse, and take excellent care of your teeth.

I have used ether..ummm...er..experimentaly, that's the word. It is very explosive and very volatile so we only used it outdoors. We did not use a rag, we just sniffed the vapors coming off the top of a small open vial, but we were not trying to lose consciousness.

IF you choose to try this, I suggest you sit up right and apply the stuff yourself, that way as you start to pass out you will drop the rag and fall over and your friend will know its time to get the rest of the stuff away from you and get to work.
