OT: Quake prediction N. Calif

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

That quake predicted for No. Calif is to happen within the next 72 hours. Was told by a friend who has firefighter friends in SF Bay Area that they are taking this seriously and are on standby alert. Anyone know anything else?

I remember watching a very bright full moon in about 1967. A few hours later, LA had a pretty significant quake. The earth is near perihelion, the moon is near perigee, the gravitational stresses not are much larger than normal.

Thanks,

Not sure I can trust anybody with a 900 number, 800 number ok. I will keep a watch on this.

Thanks agian for the link.

Well, the guy is a geologist and predicted the Loma Prieta quake in SF Bay area in 1989 - I know I was there.

Geologist? Sounds more like he is an astronomer.

As Above, So Below.

did you also notice that this full moon will be the closest the moon has come to the earth all year.

You're on the right track tt, but actually it will be the closest it has been to Earth in 70 years. That's why I said it sounds like the guy making this prediction is more of an astronomer than a geologist. Any astronomer can tell you when the moon will exert the strongest pull of gravity, but it doesn't require any knowledge of geology to make an earthquake prediction based on this.

He takes into account the pull from the moon and sun, tidal forces, and knowledge of the faults. But of course the moon and sun affect the whole planet, so predicting a quake SOMEWHERE during "syzygy" may not be very helpful unless he can narrow the WHERE. For that he considers a wide variety of data.. well water levels, lost pet ads, the reports of sensitives. No, its not ALL geology, but he has a pretty good track record. If you want to see how some past quakes match with the "syzygy" dates see: here or here Note the chart of Venezuela quakes. I'm guessing Venezuela might get a quake - in addition to the planetary forces the faults there are under increased pressure from the weight of all that water.

oops... that second link referred back to the home page. Here is the specific info on Venezuela, or on other states and countries.
