Who said "Prepare Prepare Prepare" for Y2K?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A friend of mine insists that there was an early-evening or prime-time half-hour show "on cable" about 2 or 3 weeks ago urging people to prepare for Y2K. Two men were interviewed, he said. Supposedly one of them was Greenspan [don't quote me]. The "expert" said to prepare for 2 years if possible (food, etc.) He said they were very cautious in their approach - "The last thing we want to do is start a panic, but people need to prepare, prepare, prepare."

The gist was that they were concerned about last-minute bank runs and that they suggested that 'worried' people begin withdrawing whatever cash they intend to set aside a little at a time during throughout the month of December. This would ameliorate cashflow problems for the banks.

What was the name of this show and who was interviewed? A transcript would be great! Thanks.

Most folks spend any extra cash on Christmas. Bank run my ass.

Unless the recent Gallup Polls are off by at least 30% or more, Americans have targeted way too much cash for final-week withdrawals. There have been plenty of threads on this and the subject is not really worth a "last-minute" rehash.

It pretty much looks at this point like whoever is going to seriously store food, etc., has already done so. Y2K naysayers dare not risk the ridicule by neighbors who might see them with cartfulls at the local grocery store. The stakes are just too high.

Now, the withdrawal of cash, on the other hand is virtually private. Only your banker knows for sure and it doesn't take a whole pantry to conceal it from neighborhood gossips.

Don't fall for the temptation! Leave your money in the bank! Be a part of the solution, not just another repitition of the problem.

Oh Doug, such words of wisdom. But around here, if a black cat crosses the road, it is considered evidence that Y2K is going to be a disaster. But, that's why I love it here. Where else can you find this much entertainment value for a dollar? Have been reading reading and watching this guy Steve Heller self destruct in real time? It really is better than going to the zoo!

Have fun while you can, for real. You're not "for real" but you'll be forced to face reality in just 12 days.
