greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Retailers across the nation are posting their return policies on Y2K prep items. They will not be excepting returns on most items that have commonly been purchased for the purpose of Y2K failures that do not happen.

What's even *stranger* is that I heard a rumor that insurance companies won't return your premiums at the end of the term if you haven't filed a claim.

Go figure.

At my local Home Depot, there are a set of folks that used to buying A/C for the hot month of August and then returning it in September.

No questions asked.

HD knows people do this, but they don't put out signs about "All Sales on window A/C's final"

They do put out signs for the generators and the radiant Kerosene heaters though....signs have been there most of the year.

Sears has a 20% restocking fee. Sounds fair to me. I feel serious remorse for retailers in the event of a BITR (ironically) and massive purchases start getting returned.

I went to Home Depot yesterday to return a leaf blower i got as a present. ( i have one already). They needed my reciept i tole them it was a gift and it was unused and they could open the box to check. I waited ten minutes for the manager to come over and he opened the whole box to check for LEAVES?? Maby he thought i used it and returned it after the fall... They then asked for my dirvers license and told me i "was in the system" so the next time i return anything it will be at the managers decression????? Very strange.

I have purchased some Coleman Duracats. heaters from them at $49.00 bucks each. I do not want them after jan 30,2000 if i can help it. Hope i am not stuck with some of my preps after the smoke clears... Or HD will loose a big consumer...
