WHAT TO DO WITH THE SONOMA Y2K WEB SITE?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Sonoma County : One Thread

DEAR FRIENDS,

I am soliciting input on what to do with the Sonoma Y2K website. It seems to have served it's purpose. Since there has been so little posting the last few weeks, it may just be time to draw it to a close and shut it down. I have been tempted to transform it into a Sustainablity or Simple Living site but there are many sites that do that job already.

Please let me know what you would like to do. If you want to be unsubscribed from the mailing list please do that soon by going to the web site and clicking on "Add An Alert." Then disable your alert. This alone will be a good communication as to what the general feeling is to continue.

Thanks very much for all your participation this past year and 3 months. It has been a real education.

Sincerely,

Hi Jean,

Let me first say Thank You so much for hosting this website. It has been a good source of information, a comfort, an effective forum, and I, for one, will miss it. I was hoping it would continue into the new year so we can report on how we are doing as individuals, as neighborhoods, etc. as the Y2k effects start to be felt. However, I understand the need to close something that seems to be so inactive. I admit I am mostly a "lurker" and that I don't often post, but I feel a part of the Sonoma Y2k community because of this website.

You have done an outstanding job of fielding the site and providing great links and tidbits on a regular basis. I plan to stay in touch with you and other Y2k friends via email when the site goes down. It is so nice to know we have friends out there who are in agreement on this issue and who don't think we are off the deep end.

We are hoping for the best, smoothest transition possible but feel very good about being prepared as much as we are and our family and friends too. Good will come out of this, no matter what. That's my belief.

Dear Jean and group,

I think it is far too early to shut the website down! Now, if you're talking about the email list, that might be different. You could let that go because of less traffic if you see fit, but please do not shut your site down. It's an important community resource at this time.

And, as far as the list goes, I find that these occasional updates and other posts are valuable. It's not quantity that counts; it's quality.

Thanks for all your dedicated and able work!

Blessings, Happy Holidays, and Best in 2000,

Layne Santa Rosa
