Computer Sciences Corp. screwed the pooch on my wifes pay check!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

THis is first hand intel: For the pay period endingFriday, Computer Sciences Corporation had a massive payroll error. Apparently, all of the data on my wife's direct deposit stub was not a reflection of the new pay period, but the same data from the previous pay period. But all hands got a deposit. So, CSC withdrawls the money, and then re-deposits the funds. E-mail;s were flying, and I will endevour to get documentation of this claim. All employees of the Richmond, VA office of CSC were affected. Y2K?? I do not believe in coincedences. This is the BITR. Can anyone confirm with other sources? ANY CSC employees here??

Semper Fidelis,

Richard, USMC

Sincerely, you have my sympathy. What did this "minor glitch" do to your own bill paying? Leaves you hung out to dry, right?

Reports of these little problems seem to be trickling out, more and more. Ah yes, "death by a thousand cuts." Evidently the American Public is too dumb to pour pee out of a boot.

This did not "hurt" our finances, rather was just a aggravation. We do not anticipate direct deposit to go smoothly next year. Trying to get an e-mail as proof.

I think the overlooked point is that this is COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION we are talking about. These guys are GOOD; beaucoo .mil and .gov information technology/COMPUTER science projects. NASA, NSA,DOD, plus some really top notch Fortune 500 clients like GM, Pratt & Whitney, etc. SO, what in the world did they not do or do to cause a payroll error. Now this was not a catostrophic event here, but really, these guys are supposed to be the stud-muffin, guru, paragagon of making computers work for the betterment of mankind. If anyone should not be having ANY KIND of computer error, it is these guys. Check them out on the NASDAQ, clearly, CSC is world class.

WHY THE "GLITCH"????

Been out of town and hadn't looked at my CSC pay stub yet, until reading this. Mine's okay. At least, different figures from the one before it on all inputs. Will see tomorrow about e-mails that may have flown.

Will check into it this week. Pay roll is now handled out of Sterling, VA. I do have friends in the Corporate Accounting Office who could fill me in. What I do know is after taking to some of the Executives there, there are concerned about the litigation factor due to CSC having many Outsoursing Contracts. A large amount of their revenue now, thanks to 'ol Van Honeycutt (who I have had the somewhat pleasure of meeting!) comes from. I have seen many of their Powerpoint Y2K presentations. Many of the managers there have gone to what is called "Due Dilligence". This Corporate MIS Department will be working the New Years weekend to ensure Corporate Systems are working propertly.

Enough said, will get back to you with an answer soon.

Interesting...

CSC won a big outsourcing deal here recently, taking over IT for the entire County of San Diego. A fun time to be transitioning people, eh?

Keep us posted.

Richard, USMC,
My experience has been that the "overhead" functions of a company fight a never ending battle (and rarely successful) for their fair share of money, talent, and resources, with the glamorous, revenue generating sectors of the company. I don't mean to minimize the impact of the incident reported, but it does not necessarily indicate that CSC's government and military projects have an insufficient quantity of stud-muffin personnel.

ROTFL! SH, I think you may have provoked another unscheduled wakeup call for snooze button's dog.
