Major WA company may be in Y2k trouble

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

One of our close personal friends was just hired as a system analyst for a pharmaceutical company in Washington state. The horn-hairs there ordered her to complete remediation in two weeks, or else. She informed them that it would take art least six months, so she expects to be out of a job shortly. She also told me that IHO they are absolutely going to crash!

Now this is an honest report. You lawyer types who want me to make more definite and certain, i.e., want me to reveal the name and location of the company, plus the programmers vital statistics, can stick it in your collective nostrils. I am not going to betray my source.

Or else? If I were your friend, I'd tell them to stick it where the sun does not shine. Sounds to me like they are at her beckon call not theirs.

NOT ENOUGH BANAIDS HERE OR WHAT?

And here I thought you were referring to MicroSoft.

Talk about an invitation to a beheading!

We're way past the point of no return, and we are approaching the rim of the Horseshoe Falls...

Question...

Does the Coroner get called? Or does the RCMP arrest us for that damn fool stunt!?

Well Rasty, as Shakespere was wont to say, "Therein lies the rub." They're paying her enough to make taking the heavy BS worthwhile. Her philosophy is that the gold ring only comes around once in a while, so grab it, and worry about jumping off when their merry-go-round stops.

Well, Susan, it bugs me no end when a poster with honorable reasons for keeping a confidence gets interrogated at length. As the thread develops, he is sometimes accused of being a polly or troll or of posting an unfounded rumor. Eventually he is castigated for his refusal to divulge his source, and he goes through all that just because he isn't satisfying some DWGI yo-yo's curiosity. I figured I'd try to nip that in the bud.

Elskon,

I hope your friend got a signed, and witnessed, statement from her clients acknowledging that she does not regard their schedule as realistic, and that she does not commit to meeting it.

I don't know Jerry, but the next time I talk to her I'll ask her. She's a pretty sharp indipendent contractor who's been around the circuit a few times, so she doesn't do anything stupid.
