Who will be the scapegoat?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Recall the scene in The Maltese Falcon? "We need someone to take the fall." When Y2k consequences resemble the devastation of WWII, whatever remains of our government will also need a scapegoat, lest We the People come after them. Kosky's the obvious choice, just as Wilmer was in the movie. But wait!--Kosky KNOWS too much. Imagine him on the cover of Time or Newsweek, a latter-day John Dean, telling how he was arm-twisted, begged, bargained with, to tell such big lies, supposedly for the good of the country. No, he won't do at all. They'll quietly sack him, to be sure, but they can't BLAME him unless they stage his suicide afterward--a la Vince Foster. Al Gore, who fathered the Internet, patron saint of the technocrats? But wait!--you notice Al Gore has kept mum about y2k? As far as we can tell he's spent the last seven years failing in body language classes. Then who? Bill Gates? Ha! Why, because he never shared with us his secret silver bullet? It won't play in Peoria. Well, how about... President William Jefferson Clinton? Throw in his wife as well, everybody hates her, too. That's my bet. Publicly, he'll resign--by end of May-- with apologies, quoting Truman--"the buck stops here." THEY will make him an offer he CAN"T refuse. What I'm really wondering is this: has Captain Billy figured this out yet?

Sorry Comrade Bubba, You've outlived your usefulness. We're putting you on a plane back to Mother Russia.

Rommel's choice maybe? Too much to hope for.

The Y2K is to big to blame any-one individual. As your friendly Gov. has often said, Y2K is not the problem, John Q Public is the problem. Lost of heat, food, water in, sewer out, yada, yada, yada. will get JQ. pissed-off. So boys and girls the only reason to break out the National Gaurd is not to fix the heat, food, water in and sewer out, yada, yada, yada. Its to protect the Gov. from JQP., because once again your the problem...---...

Who won't be blamed:

- The markets that judge a company only by current earnings...not how much they are preparing for the future...

- The managers who knew what was happening but went for short term profitability instead of fixing problems...

- The government(s) that told people not to prepare...

- The news media that didn't find out and disclose the true situation...

I've answered this question before. I think that we should blame Flint. The last time many agreed ;-).

Best wishes,,,,
