HP S20 vs. Nikon LS-30

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am considering buying either the Nikon LS30 or the HP S20. I consider myself a serious amerture and will be using it mainly for personal use. I am curious of the trade offs between the two devices. The HP scans in 36 bit where as the Nikon scans in 30 bit. However, the HP scans 2400 DPI and the Nikon scans at a higher 2700 DPI. If you are printing 8x10s or viewing pictures on a computer which is more important? In what cases would a higher DPI be beneficial and the same goes for higher bit scans?

I have the scaner HP S20. I was not happy with. There was a lots of film jams. I would be happier if it be a little faster. I was not happy with sharpnes. I pay for the S20 $750.00 An I was happy to get read of it at $200.00 I wouldnt recomend it. I never use Nikon scaners but I think if I can aford onther that would be Nikon. I own three Nikon Film cameras and two digitals. I now use mostly digital cameras. It is more conveniently But for quality film . is still better John.
