Good site for watching the millenium rollover

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In preparing for the Y2K rollover, I have been looking around for a good web site from which to monitor events as they unfold. Of course, CNN and such will be providing coverage, and the ICC with John Koskinen will be providing spin. However, I was looking for something more connected to the real people, with less filtering. And I think I have found it:

Zone 2000: The Center for Real-Time Results of Y2K.  By December 31st of 1999, Zone 2000 hopes to have people in each of the 24 time zones around the world. They will be online and sending reports of what's happening as a result of the year 2000 rollover in their part of the planet. With the gracious help of their volunteers, Zone 2000 hopes to offer you a timely picture of the post Y2K state of our world. Shortly after local midnight, some areas of the world may suffer power outages or other infrastructure failures. Other areas may experience civil unrest or other troubles. Still others may suffer no more than a little too much partying. Whatever the result, Zone 2000 hopes to keep you advised from the fingertips of actual citizens in these places.

From that site:

"You will need to be a participant to view all the reports. Sign up now."

Long sign-up form follows, with some detailed questions.

We'll do something here too... if MIT is "up."
