Russia discontinue natural gas to Moldova

I read this in the Denver Post newspaper today. Russia is discontinuing natural gas supplies to Moldova a country of 4.3 million supposedly because they haven't paid there bill of 600 million. Sorry, I don't have a link of any sort and naturally it was a tiny article tucked on the inside of the paper somewhere.

Question - Russia has cut back on natural gas to Turkey and now totally discontinued Moldova. For what purpose? Russia's consumption isn't going to escalate so much that they need to cutback on exports. Why would they do this and especially at this time of year when gas is critical for heating?

Because if you're planning on starting a nuclear war this month, you want to keep all possible resources for yourself, as anybody that's left is probably not going to want to sell YOU anything.
