Comparison between coolpix 950 and Ricoh 5300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The Ricoh 5300 has a resolution of 2.3 million pixels and the coolpix 950 has a resolution of 2.1 million pixels. I want a high resolution camera, but I want a good macro lens. Is the nikon lens significanly better than the ricoh? Is the resolution difference between these 2 cameras going to make a visible difference? Thanks

The difference in pixels I am sure would be very hard to discern. I have a Nikon 900 and am upgrading to 950 model. This camera takes fantastic closeups (either model, but eve improved on the 950). I can highly recommend this brand. The very in-depth review on this page made my decision easy. PS it appears to me after one year of digital photography after 40 years of the other kind, I can also say that the lens quality is the heart of it all. I had an old Leica with a 50 mm Summicron that has never been equalled, I learned later that Kodak used it to calibrate for quality control their micro-film production (like a thousand lines per millimeter resolution). I hate to say that I let go of this lens foolishly
