Digital Camera as a web cam?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm considering buying a digital camera. What is the capture mode I see on most cameras used for? Can digital cameras be used as web cams. I have a video capture card. Will I need any special cables? Please help. Thanks.

Using a digital camera as a web cam is simple. Just write an Applescript to control the camera via the manufacturer's software. Don't worry if you don't know programming. You can walk through the steps manually and have Applescript record the steps as you perform them. Then you can edit the resulting script if necessary, for instance to change the interval between snapshots. The cable you need varies according to what Macintosh model you own. The newer ones use USB connections, while the older ones use ADB connectors.
