Define "truth"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

From Wired.com, quoting Bill Clinton:

According to the Gregorian calendar, which begins the Christian era at year 1 A.D., the third millennium does not begin until 2001.

"That was the prevailing view among the experts, but the people, as they expressed a different wish, we're going with the folks. We've got a democracy here and that's the way we're going," Clinton said.

Response to Define "truth"

With all gentleness, Jesus said that He was Way, and Truth, and Life. Do not let your human will keep you from knowing the Divine Will.

Not a lie/false. Subject to change upon introduction and assimilation of additional information.

And perhaps if the great unwashed decided to vote 2+2 to be 5, we would change that too??

Couldn't he pass some Amendment or something banning computers or embedded chips from failing. He'd get a huge majority for that...

Truth: that which materially effects me, regardless of the beliefs or wishes of myself or others.

translation: and if a poll of the people say y2k is NP, then it is NP. (don't mention the kosky ringer highered to assure the folks do infact have that perception)

This is amazing! I just now got off the phone with a good friend and we were discussing this very topic. If you're a Christian, then you're to use God's standard and not man's. Truth is truth. Exaggeration is not truth. There's lying by omission, i.e. someone in your company is telling a lie and you don't correct it. By your silence you have allowed the lie to continue.

We also discussed how to recognize situational ethics in regard to truth. When someone states, "I lied because....", they obviously felt the situation called for a lie and made it okay.

Have I ever lied? Yes. Does that make it right? No. Do I throw stones at those who lie? See above sentence...I have too many windows to be throwing stones. That doesn't change the definition of Truth however.

Ladylogic--perhaps I missed something you've seen. I thought the thread was titled "Define "truth". What does TRUTH have to do with being gullible?

Truth - All correct facts perfectly combined together in harmony. Ultimately, there is only one "truth" to everything individually and collectively.

Faith doesn't make truth.

Belief doesn't make truth.

Objective facts make truth. Like pieces of a puzzel. Get enough of the pieces correct and you can pretty much tell what the truth will turn out to be.

Apply this to Y2K. Look at the objective facts:

TPTB are preparing for a world wide disaster to begin in just 18 days. Why? Because they do not know the Truth.

Neither do you.

Prepare.
