No question about it. If Y2K is a BITR for us, it will not be for Yardeni's career. He gains absolutely nothing by going/staying doomer at this point.

For The Record.

I still expect a recession next year. I am not rooting for this outcome. I wouldn't mind sacrificing it to the forecasting gods. I'll be very happy if Y2K turns out to be a nonevent. If so, then everyone on the planet Earth heard the alarm bells and acted in time to avert computer problems. I'm skeptical, but I could be wrong. I remain amazed by the confidence of all the optimists. They have no doubts that all will go smoothly, with only minor disruptions at worst. Hey, we'll all find out together soon. New Year's Day, a Saturday, should be uneventful. If problems occur, they are likely to crop up in the first three months of the year.
