Answers

In 1875, George Anderson became the first person to stand on top of Half Dome by pounding steel spikes into drilled holes on the low angle SE slabs (where the trail now goes).

Or are you referring to the FA of the vertical NE face?

George Bell has the directions screwed up. Anderson climbed up the NE slab after months of work in 1875(?). The sheer vertical face is the NW face, climbed by Robbins, Gallwas and Sherrick in 1957.
