Ms. Logic,

It has been widely reported that your behavior in the Y2K chat area has been extremely disruptive. Given the anonymous nature of the Internet, this is difficult prove one way or another. Your thread about the petroleum industry generated considerable activity. As an anonymous poster, however, your claims go into the same file as "Mr. CEO."

While your personal journey from serious pessimist to "dour optimist" may be of interest, it does not move the Y2K debate forward. Even with only 18 days left, there are still a few folks who want to engage in serious discussions of Y2K. I think the issue is less with content and more with style. According to folks like Mike Taylor (who seems a rather reasonable fellow), you have tried to disrupt the conversation, rather than add to it.

I agree that censorship is repugnant... When I arrived here, Mr. Yourdon had posted a "come one, come all" teaser on his web page. The current sysops have run away from this principle.... The forum sysops have failed to define, "Troll." (Much like the Supreme Court failed to define obscenity.) They have identified individual posters in the new "rules," as if the author of an essay is more important than the content. Overall, they reflects a lack of commitment to the spirit of open debate and discussion.

On the other hand, your behavior (if accounts are true) does not strengthen the position of forum optimists. I have often called upon the forum sysops to exercise moral leadership. They have not. They have turned a blind eye to the excesses of the extreme pessimists.

While I am not a "leader" in the optimist camp, I will not stand idly by and allow your behavior to go unquestioned. If you are responsible for disruptions in the Y2K chat area... please stop. Contribute to the Y2K debate in a meaningful way, or find some other hobby. This applies to Y2KPro or any other optimists who are simply to bedevil the forum regulars.

A final word to our censors, please remove the list of "trolls" from the forum guidelines. It is juvenile and presupposes the individuals listed cannot ever contribute to the Y2K discussion. If you must judge a post, judge it on content, not authorship.

She strikes me as delusional at best, and I would venture that this woman has been badly abused at some point in her past. I am in agreement that this issue will not spell the end of the world nor will it mean anything approaching it, but you seem to get a little lost in tracking your target .As stated to 'preparing' on your thread, most of the people posting here are scared to death about y2k and merely advise the preparedness. Look, I've prepared, too. Yet, you aim at the minority of posters who wish death upon people who don't share their diseased mindsets. And you do it loudly and at the expense of bandwidth that merely tends to rally the rest of the doom camp around that scum (as posted by Y2KPro)...because you post in such general terms that tends to make all doomers look like the same scum.

I would submit only that there is a dividing line between the doom camp and the backwoodsman/militiaman/armageddonist scum that pops up occasionally, rewrites history and wishes to slap the backs of doomers while spewing hatred and filth. While it continues to be unconscionable that prudent preparers don't call that vermin on the carpet for what it is...and while it is unfortunate that few doomers have the gumption to silence that ilk....making general, sweeping commentries about the entire public here is well, a little out of left field.

Again, I generally share your sentiments. I just wish you'd make some realizations here.

Now, I would like to take a moment to address the issue of the chatroom:

1) That live chatroom (or any other) is not TimeBomb2000 or affiliated in any way except that some of the participants are also participants from this board. They are separate entities and one site does not have jurisdiction over the other.

2) I have been attacked without warrent by trolls in the live chat and here. However, I have refrained from reciprocating even when some of them have threatened me, browbeatened me, and used the most foul four-letter words one can speak. (What do you think would happen to us if we resorted to that type of behavior, Ken? There is definitely a double-standard applied here.) Even so, I have behaved here, but I DO NOT have to accept that kind of behavior in the live chatroom. If someone hits there, I hit back. I have gone in there to discuss water purification methods, favorite foods, etc. and without fail, one of the women (usually Old Git or ResignedNoMore) wants to argue with me about men or something else equally inane, and I tell them to kiss my sweet, white, powdered butt. When I get particularly angry, I spam the room because they are not talking about Y2K anyway!

I am not the bad guy, Ken. My interest in Y2K is as serious as yours; it reflects in my posts, and I let my work speak for itself.

LL, again, I will grant you that you got shafted during that thread. As far as the forum having a penchant for 'doomers', well, I am sure SysOps can clue you into what the forum is all about. Point is, if you've come here looking for friends, this probably is the wrong place, given the scattershod, all over the board approach you have taken recently.

I submit there is an enemy here among both camps that muddies the waters regarding the discussion of y2k. Having said that, it is my recommendation that a lot of info that materializes via a thread be looked at closely, for while it seems there is a lot of optimistic news (that admittedly gets fired upon here), and a lot of news that is cause for concern, there is also a lot of misinformation, revisionism and posturing that places doomgods above the crowd even though they have track records of error-filled predictions that never did come to pass.

I guess what I am saying is that I still don't see a bonafide enemy within the confines of the debate which is y2k. The enemy, as it were, comes in the shape of the aforementioned individual, who infiltrates the board, makes some grand pronouncement that goes as gospel and accrues a following.

LL, again, I tend to agree with your thoughts about all of this. Here's my recommendation: pick your fights wisely. While the very nature of this forum is about the concern over y2k, the remediation, the lack thereof and the preps needed, it doesn't mean the entire public here is the enemy.

No, that's another group altogether...and that's the group spreading misinfo even at this late date, swaying stressed out psyches.

I have some trouble believing "Lady Logic" is your legal name, although I can understand some reluctance to post your real identity. Even so, you are still an "anonymous" poster with no definable credentials. In fairness, I cannot apply a different standard to you than to the gossip traded on the Internet as "fact." No offense meant, but it is a matter of intellectual honesty.

As you well know, there is a fair amount of overlap between this forum and the chat area. My advice, if you wish to take it, is to remain tenaciously adult. When you engage in an online tantrum, you simply damage your own credibility. Since I happen to live in the proverbial "glass house," I will admit to losing patience a time or two. Attacking someone, even in response, is rarely a satisfactory solution. Attacking an entire "room" is quite simply unfair.

A mark of maturity is to apologize for your behavior. While few may believe this apology, it demonstrates your willingness to accept responsibility for your behavior... perhaps more completely than the challenge to kiss your backside.

As one who speak from experience, personal attacks can be difficult. They do serve a purpose, however, in separating the Y2K debaters from the Y2K cultists. I am not suggesting your a "bad" person, but intentional disruption of the chat area is behaving badly. Once again, I ask you to refrain from such behavior....

I can't believe you have been so upset with me for such a simple communication error.

I went to school in Arabi when I was in the third grade. I went to St John Vianny grade school there. I don't know what my address was, that was more years ago than I care to think about. When I told you I live at Camelback and 29th Street, (I can't believe you remembered that! You have an incredible memory, because that must have been a month ago!) I meant that is where I live now. I live in Phoenix now, not Louisianna. I do miss it on occasion though. The state is so much more beautiful than Arizona. I remember I caught my first fish off of the Lake Ponchetrain bridge, and thought I was the strongest most talented girl in the world (cause that is what my daddy lead me to believe). It was so exciting to reel that sun fish in! What I don't miss is the mosquitoes. When I lived there, they didn't have mosquito control, and I had to spray myself with "Off" before I walked to school. Inevitably, I was still bitten, and spent the entire year playing indoors.

Im sorry you missed that in the chat OG. Live chat is so fast, and when I couple that speed with fatigue, I guess I dont make myself crystal clear.

You are not going to change anyone's opinion on this forum because they have studied the problem for many months, and in some cases years. They are professionals in all fields of endeavor with years of experience to back up their opinions, not just a quick weekend study like you.

This is not a democracy, you have to earn your rights in here. They are not god given. People will listen to you if you make sense. I again re-iterate my nomination of you, LL, as being the most effective troll ever. I keep swearing I won't feed your twisted ego, by responding to your posts, but you keep finding ways to bring me back. FWIW, you do seem to have a "talent" for this.

For instance, all the blatant lies you told about your behavior, in the chat room I set up. Your attacks have been unprovoked and gratuitous. And your assertions that they've only been against Old Git and Resigned, are so false, that I'm totally incedulous that anyone would have the lack of conscience to actually speak such things.

Yes, it's true that the chat rooms are not official affiliates of TBY2K. But if you think anyone's going to bleed for you, because you suffer here, due to behavior there, guess again. As the saying goes, any port in a storm, babe.

You have obviously set out to be the most villified poster ever, around here. You seem to be arriving. So tell us....how does it feel?

I too, deplore censorship. But when behavior is as such, that a prudent person can see that the behavior's sole intent is to cause misery to others, and attempts are made by that individual to communicate in ways that prohibit others from speaking (as in LL's super-scrolling, in the chat room), and the person attempts to obfuscate the nature of their discourse, then that person is worthy of censorship, IMHO.

It is an under-handed form of slander, when someone denies their behavior, since that is an attempt to impune the credibility of those who bring the person's behavior to the attention of others. Free-speech means you are free to bring forth whatever cockamamie idea you may have rattling around, inside your head. It does not mean you are free to slander and libel.

I'm a rabid free-speech advocate, but even *I* acknowledge there are limits.
