I came across a picture of a MC in an encylopedia (brown tabby), and it looked just like my cat Peter. When I clicked on the web site and read the description, it fit him in every way! Is that all the verification I need, or is there some other way to do it? I could send a picture to someone if that would help.

Unfortunately, the ONLY way you can really verify that your cat is a Maine Coon is if you have pedigree papers for the cat from the breeder. There are many household pet cats which look like they may well have MC in their background. If your cat has a lot of MC in its background, be grateful that you have found yourself a big, goofy, loving companion and don't worry about exactly what his parentage might be! If he is really beautiful perhaps you could enter him in the household pet class at a local cat show and the judges could give you some feedback on what they think he may have come out of!!
