25% power shortages on New Years

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This interesting little tidbit comes from an electric worker in wisconsin. This is what he's been told by the company. This is the honest-to-God truth. As far as I'm concerned no one can out and out dismiss TEOWATAKI anymore. Speculation is a waste of my time. buh-buye

25% shortages in this guy's power company? 25% shortages in Wisconsin? 25% shortages in the U.S? 25% shortages across the world? Speak to us, man!

A friend of mine has a cousin, a stand-up guy, viet-nam vet, etc, who has a girlfriend who knows a guy at an electric company who overheard his bosses boss on a phone call to some guy in Wisconsin who said....

On the other hand, I can easily believe a 25% *demand* shortage.

This guy meant 25% in the whole country. Buh-BUY!

I have also heard the 25% figure, from an unidentified electric co exec on a shortwave "doomer" radio show, just last week. He "sounded" credible, but who knows. Scared me just the same.

If that's true, that would put us at 95% generating capacity on a day that sees demand at 60%. Bye Bye.

Twenty five percent loss of power would seem managable if they are refering to 25% of capacity loss as apposed to 25% service loss. Not that he represents truth like God might, but Bennett todl the slow pitchers at CNN that they culd handle up to fifty percent reductionin power without catastrophic results because demand is at fifty percent at this time of year.

Seem logical. Any thoughts?

Not you Ladylogic.

Let me clarify what I was told by a friend who talked to an electric utility "layman" (as my firend called him). Nothing was mentioned about 25% according to my friend (sorry for the inaccuracy of my original report). What he said was 1 IN 4 HOMES will be without power on New Years Day, and that this information has not been disseminated for fear of panic. Well..I'm scared and perpelexed, but not panicing.
