Help...have a locked up forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For two days now, when I hit the return button to take me from the thread back to the forum, the forum comes up on the 10th. Always with that earthquake warning at the top. Then I have to go to the refresh button and that works some times. If it doesn't I have to exit altogether and come back in. Why is it doing this? It does not do this on the Prep forum. so guess I cannot cuss AOL. Would sure appreciate some help. Is this my personal y2k problem?

Wait another 3 weeks! You have not seen anything yet! Yhen your Computer will really screw up! If you had a Mac, you would not have that problem. Mac's are free from Y2K problems!

Let the top-level page load completely. If not, when you go back to it from a thread, the browser loads the last completed page from cache. (I think this is the situation.)

Taz, I don't know the answer, but you're not alone. I read alot of posts on the 10th; the next day they were posted the 9th and the new posts were the 10th; nothing was dated the current day! Like some time warp where I was condemned to relive Dec. 10th over again.

Once again, it's deja vu.

Doesn't work Lane. Thanks anyway. Taz

Taz,

Try opening the different messages in a new window, by right clicking on the link and choosing 'open in new window'. Will not 'fix' your problem, but will eliminate the need to keep trying to reload the main page.

Try emptying your cache.

Taz, I am no techie, but there are a few things you can do. Go into Windows explorer under Windows, temp and empty out the temp files that have accumulated. (they will show 0 in the size. clean them out.)

Also right click on the "my computer icon if it is on your desktop and look under performance. If it is below 70%, close your windowns and do a restart. I was having a lot of crashes, lockups, and bizarre stuff happen and this seems to help.

I could be giving you wrong advice for this symptom, but this will not harm the pc.

If I hit the back button I get the same threads as I started but if it click on the TimeBomb 2000 at the top of the page then I get all the new threads that has been added. If the server is too busy, I always use the back button to keep from getting thrown out once I get in.
