Y2K skit on SNL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I think I just saw a skit about Y2K on Saturday Night Live. I was reading this forum with TV on for background noise, when I noticed they were doing the skit wherein two women spoof National Public Radio, and how it can sometimes be so tediously boring.

The women (regulars on the show) were sitting in a burnt out radio station with a chef, played by Danny DeVito, discussing his cookbook. They said it could be "looted at bookstores all over town". some other jokes:

Danny lets the women sample his New England clam chowder, made from whiteout.

One of the women was reminiscing about the night she spent with a gang of bikers in order to get that packet of ketchup.

"I wonder when the water militia will come to visit us".

"I wish we had thought to buy a gun".

Did anyone else see this? Actually it was one of the funniest skits I've seen on SNL in quite a while.

On MAD TV on Fox Network tonight, Arleen the country singer did a little Y2K ditty. It was short but sweet. Anyone else catch it?

Yeah, and I was LMAO. Definitely was better than most of their comedy lately. That was the best laugh I've had over Y2K. And, I think, it wasn't really poking fun at those who are concerned or preparing, just making fun of the situation itself.

Dave, who will be wearing a tin foil dunce hat on April 1 if it's BITR

I caught it...interesting...funnier than most of the skits these days, but for some reason I did not laugh.

But, if Oprah would have been the guest, I would have been ROTFLMAO

What were the complete lyrics to the Mad TV Y2K song?

I thought I heard the Jingle Bells tune and something about "...dig a hole. Put in canned food and a gun." and "...won't come out until 2001." but I missed all the rest.

But even with the little bit I heard it was very funny. I guess as crazy as everyone paints us Y2Kers, we're sane enough to be able to laugh at ourselves. Unlike pollies, who take themselves sooooooo seriously. ;)

I actually saw both because I was channel surfing while my wife was sleeping.

The MAD TV thing was a little disappointing because they were making fun of the singer in general (not just because she's a doomer). They implied that she is an anti-semitic white christian who loves shooting people. Y2K was the second of 5 or 6 songs.

The SNL skit was a LOT funnier because they were actually making fun of what a couple of polly libs on NPR (of whom they make fun often on the show). It was the 165th straight day that the chef was on their show because they couldn't get any other guests. The All Things Considered guy starved four months earlier.

It was really dark humor, especially the bikers for ketchup joke, but quite funny in a TEOTWAWKI way.

I just hope we don't have to go there.
