Don't bother to turn the other cheek. They just smack it too. You have to ignore them just like ou ignore the driver that flips you a bird on I5. If you don't, you have already lost the arguement and what's worse, your precious time.

History has proven it is those with low IQ's, that when faced with a superior logical argument, respond with emotional outbursts. Rational Doomer, you have now become the poster child for "doomer ignorance". Congratulations!

good nite I feelbad for even reading this . should have canned apples instead. By the way hate gets u no where

It is ok we know we will still be in the gean pool. They will go away by slow painful death.

-- wacko (gonewackie@aol.com), December 12, 1999.

Sorry about the post...reading it now I realize that it was not cool! I had just finished reading a polly's response to someones post and was shocked...what I meant to say, is that instead of telling us doomers why we are wrong, you should be preparing. If you are wrong, then you will be thanking God for your supplies, if you are right, then you can come back here and spam all you want!

-- Rational Doomer (doomer@big.time), December 12, 1999.

Doomer, you wanna borrow my pit bull?. You know the sadest part of all?, these toads that talk junk about us will be the first to say, well why didn't someone tell us this would happen?. What you do in this case is, "Live, and let DIE". Be Cool old Buddy, Pack Rat.

-- Pack Rat (ratsnest@the.cave), December 12, 1999.

hey rational. calm down. you know you can't change people's minds. and besides, you need to learn to control your urges to make people believe the same as you and your need to hate them if they don't. the only person it hurts is you! too much stress.

bible lesson 101: the disciples were told that when they came to a town that didn't believe their message, they were to leave it and "shake the dust from their sandles as they left the town." i think that means to carry no hard feelings and carry nothing of that town's attitudes with you.

also, lesson 102: sometimes god lets people be "blinded" for a reason. who knows what it is, but i can tell you it would have totally devastated the months prior to january if they "got it" all of a sudden after being fooled by the govt for so long. i am sort of thankful for the reprieve.

maybe these folks haven't seen it for a reason? they aren't all going to die but it may reveal who has bought in blindly to the stories of the government because they don't think for themselves and don't want to as long as life is fine. maybe some are stubborn, prideful, unwilling to listen, materialistic--whatever--and they may have lessons they need to learn this year. maybe you will get to help them learn those lessons but it would be better if it were delivered in a spirit of helpfulness not hatred. that would be a real feather in your cap.

i keep picturing god making my help my DGI neighbor that pretty much just ignores me until i screw up according to the homeowner's association rules. ohhhhhhhhh....... he's going to make me feed her, i just know it. but, if he does, i will try to obey and it will be for a good purpose.

-- tt (cuddluppy@nowhere.com), December 12, 1999.

You don't yet know that you're "right". They don't yet know that they're "right". This forum is arguing a hypothetical situation; how ever real it may be in a few days, we don't have enough info to be certain of anything right now. Take the argument in stride. Here's a hint: those who would personally insult rather than contribute probably know little and base argument solely on emotion. It's not that they're bad people (polly or doomer) -- for whatever reason they've just never learned certain skills. Don't respond to people like that. I do resent the fact that a couple people on this thread are taking pleasure in the possibility that persons who disagree with them in this fashion may be killed.

-- mike d. (bboys@yahoo.com), December 12, 1999.

The polly's will not die instantly in 15 days. They will slowly lose weight as they scrounge for food, but eat not enough to sustain life. After 90 days of slowly wasting away, they will get so weak, that they can no longer scrounge for food and then they slowly die. We have warned them, but they would not listen. So they will have to accept the consequenses for their stupidity.

-- bbb (bbb@bbb.com), December 12, 1999.

Rational Doomer.. calm down. The pollies on this and other like forums are just doing their JOB. They are paid disinformation agents. [FEMA, FBI, Rendon Group, ABA... don't know.. doesn't matter.] Given the administration's attitude that the only problem is the possible panic of people, did you really think they WOULDN'T make sure forums like this were well covered? They are just doing what they are paid to do.... ignore them. Time is short. Focus.

Real pollies... like your friends and relatives you have been trying for months to convince to prepare... how many hours a day do THEY spend on these forums, or otherwise researching the problem? See my point? Real pollies aren't here.. they are - as Cory puts it - busy "sending you lightbulb, blonde, or Bill Gates jokes, and urban legends like the Arizona rocket car story".

People by and large are quite stupid. Thats why advertisers spend millions of dollars for a 30 sec. spot during the Super Bowl. They know people are stupid enough to believe that if a celeb endorses their product, the idiots out there will want to identify with the celeb, and hence go buy the product too! Kind of a Pavlov Reflex thing.

Polly's don't live in the real world.

The problem with tolerating polly's is that by the end of January they will be demanding that the government find our supplies and distribute them to the masses, And them we have to kill them.

-- goldbug (goldbug@mint.com), December 12, 1999.

species die back is natural.

-- zoobie (zoobiezoob@yahoo.com), December 12, 1999.

Sheesh. The entire y2k issue is hopelessly messy, inconsistent, ambiguous, contradictory, and unpredictable. Surely there is room in all this for legitimate differences of expectations? From what I can tell, no particular level of expectations has any distinct corner on the market for either stupidity or intelligence, mendacity or honesty, altruism or greed. We're all just concerned people viewing possible futures through the lenses of our own preferences and personalities.

While we can't all be right, we can all be making our best assessments. I can only wonder if our hindsight will be any better.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), December 12, 1999.

Flint:

Not bad this time. Pretty straightforward, very little hairsplitting. Thank you.

The only problem I have with the majority as far as this situation goes is that they HAVE NOT done any research of any kind.

I have no argument with anyone who has taken the time to dig into reports, rumors, and everything in between, and then comes to a different conclusion than I. This is the way of the world.

-- mushroom (mushroom_bs_too_long@yahoo.com), December 12, 1999.

Mushroom,

When I was in college and the class was assigned to read a book, there were as many different interpretations of the book as there were students. Just because the pollies don't think it will be the end of the world means they are stupid and don't understand. I have gone from a 10 to a "some problems but we'll work through them."

"Rational Doomer" is an oxymoron, and we are not all going to die in three weeks.

-- (Polly@troll.com), December 12, 1999.

It's nice to see that a loser names himself 'Rational Doomer' and then posts vitriolic hatred that hopes that pollies die. It's wonderful to see a fellow moron like rainman, a pseudo-intellectual like zoobie and others echo those sentiments.

lisa tells me I am not a polly, but there are things I hate about doomers:

-the social club aspect of doomdom. Disavow news stories that shoot holes in 'our' way of thinking. only listen to things that validate our beliefs. Sorry---that's Marxist.

-the politicizing of the y2k crisis into and us and them situation, when the issue shouldn't have been such a thing.

--the deplorable situation on the TB boards that has two groups of people under one umbrella. On one hand, prudent individuals preparing and thinking problems might be on the way. They are looking out for their families, even though IMHO they put a little too much credence in gloom. And on the other hand, the extremist/militia movement/racist types who also hide under the umbrella and pretend to be comrades to the aformentioned.

Being a doomer is one thing, but being a criminal wishing the demise of others is quite a different thing. Dead in 15 days? Doubtful. But I have no doubt that after reading such posts, if nothing happens in the next month, your ilk will be the first to put guns to their heads and make a 'rational' response to all the pent-up anxiety you had, and all the anticipation you stored up for nothing.

Actually you are doing what most people do. They read far too much into a bible verse. The verse says nothing whatsoever about 'carrying hard feelings' or 'carrying that town's attitudes."

When a stranger was greeted in a middle eastern town at that time, the typical welcome included bathing their feet. As you see, they wore sandals and their feet were caked with dust and other assorted grime. If they were not welcomed into any home, their feet would still be coated with filth. They were told to merely shake it off and go on. It was more like a gesture of disdain, but not like flipping someone the bird, mind you.

Don't read more into a passage than it contains.

-- Paul Milne (fedinfo@halifax.com), December 12, 1999.

Couple of things: nowhere did I say I wanted pollies to die...no one does. I said you WILL die, which I believe you will if you don't get food! I followed by saying "so go get food and stop spamming up our board", the former obviously more productive than the later. Second, Rational Doomer is not an oxymoron, however, rational polly is.

-- Rational Doomer (doomer@big.time), December 12, 1999.

Too late, Rational Doomer, your post has already been used as fodder by Y2K Pro in a new thread much further up.

Relax, seriously, take a deep breath. Quite honestly, I have always read what the "pollies" have written on this forum with amusement. I have read all the arguments and flames and I really truly don't understand why I should care what a total stranger thinks of my opinion. I guess that is why they don't bother me. I teach 8th graders and when I read some one-liners on this forum that reminds me of something my students would say, I just smile and ignore it. AFter all, I can't give them a detention, can I?

Pray, meditate, take long walks, drink some hot cocoa, smile. I need the advice, too, nice to see I am not the only one stressing. :-)

-- preparing (preparing@home.com), December 12, 1999.

Rational Doomer,

When do you KNOW that you have enough food and water? I myself have 4 weeks worth, but I would have to consider myself a polly as I believe Y2K will only be a BITR. In case you didn't know it, many of the other pollies have even more extensive supplies set aside, only because they have always done it and will continue to do it after the new year.

If Y2K is a BITR, are you planning on mainting your supplies at the same level you do now, or cut back some?

The pollies on this and other like forums are just doing their JOB. They are paid disinformation agents. [FEMA, FBI, Rendon Group, ABA... don't know.. doesn't matter.]

BTW, in no way shape or form am i "just doing my job" either. Those organizations have alot better things to do than troll thos forum.

(Troll <> Polly)

-- Steve (sron123@aol.com), December 12, 1999.

The question is, how do you regard people who disagree with you? Some of them are inarticulate, so you can call them stupid and feel justified. But some are not, so you have to consider them paid agents, devil's advocates or deliberate troublemakers.

And if, later on, they prove to be more nearly correct, you have more options. You can call them "lucky" (which discounts their foresight), or you can try to claim you were right after all (and I've seen people claiming we're *already* up to level 4, but nobody seems to notice).

What you can *not* do is admit you were wrong. That requires maturity.
