OT/ You never know when the water won't flow....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This was in the USA TODAY on Friday...UFO: A mysterious flying object has landed near an Australian dam, leaving a large crater, and has sunk beneath the mud. Air tests around the dam found no radioactivity, but the water supply to the nearby town of Guyra, 235 miles north of Sydney, was shut down. The object appears to have hit the dam at a 45-degree angle. Police set up barricades to keep out onlookers, and scientists were called in. Theories of what it is range from a meteorite to frozen sewage jettisoned from an aircraft and even NASA's missing Mars Polar Lander.

I heard this initial story but nothing further. Has anyone got any follow-up information? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Especially since this is amazingly similar to an event in the early seventies involving somthing crashing into a lake or pond in the northeastern US. There was the initial news reports of something coming down and then no further information.

We would someone want to know? Well, if folks you know work hard to send funny things up into space it would be interesting to know if things aren't working right or coming down where they need to.

As shown on TV here, and published in a local paper. It was a small meteorite (about the size of a golf ball) which plowed through the lake weed at a 45o angle, leaving a trail about the size of a house. Divers have recovered some tiny fragments, but the main part is still buried in the mud.

Frozen sewage! (and I thought planes falling from the sky was improbable.)

Greybear, a sense of humor such as yours need to be regulated by responsible authorities. It's just too dangerous.

It had to be Russian if it was frozen sewage. After all, doesn't their flag show the hammer and icicle?

Good one, Greybear. 8>)
