Help to get a AC ADAPTER !

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I need a AC ADAPTER for my Epson PC850Z digital camera but cannot afford the $100.00 they want here in Canada. I am going to try someone like Radio Shack for a cheaper DC source as long as I get the right size PLUG! Now my camera book says the Epson AC Adapter supplies DC 7 V/2.0 A, ie= 7volts DC. but the batteries are 4 X 1.2 volt NiMH rechargables which is 4.8 volts AND the Epson battery charger Output is DC 1.2 V/490 ma X 4, 8watts which is 4.8 volts DC, same as the batteries. Now my question is why the differance between 7 volts DC (adapter)and 4.8 volts DC ? (batteries and charger) Thank you. Norman Howard

I don't know why you need a ac adaptor. Nikon wants $50 for an adaptor for the cp950 and I got a recharger and 8 batteries from ckcpower.com for $50. I don't have to be tethered to use the camera when I use rechargable batteries. The batteries last longer than 2 hrs in the camera and the recharger will recharge batteries in 2 hrs. If you happen to forget the batteries recharging for a few days... no problems! In fact they recommend that you leave the batteries on the charger, since it goes into a trickle charge once it is charged. They even included a automobile connector so you can charge while you are driving between attractions.

Last time I looked up an url, I checked it to make sure it was right and it cost me $70! (I bought some stuff) Check my web page for the url for the link: http://pages.prodigy.net/daveclark

I am going to ditto Dave Clark's comments. When I bought my digicam I also purchased an AC adapter along with lithium hydride batteries and charger(Quest brand). I have yet to use the AC adapter. It is inconvenient to set up and the cord is a nuisance. Stick with the batteries!

Well why do I need an adapter, it is very simple, my Daughter has a large Horse farm and of course they have lots of Horse Shows, also there are many other horse shows in our area during the year, I have a 750 Epson printer and I can print pictures from my Epson PC850Z digital camera direct to the printer! Now doing it without a computer takes about 5 minutes for each 8x10 high resolution picture and I do not have to be an expert to realize that I could not take enough batteries with me to last for ONE DAYS PRINTING ! So all my troubles would be over with a AC Adapter ! Oh yes I would have hydro! Yours truly. Norman Howard. Email: normanhoward@home.com

It may be required to allow the camera to do better regulation of the incoming PSU voltage (that is, it's a "dropout" voltage) or allow the camera to charge the batteries while the PSU is connected (if your camera does the latter).

I note that Olympus wanted fifty or sixty pounds for their 6V 2A PSU. I asked them to justify this price and they claimed that it was because the camera had a fairly hefty current requirement. (Two Amps *is* quite a large requirement compared to most low voltage devices.) It may come as no surprise to you to know that I did *not* buy the Olympus PSU...

Hi there Mark. First I would like to thank you very much for answering my letter, yours was very informative ! However seeing that my wife bought me the camera for Christmas and my Birthday combined AND it cost a lot of money, I don,t think I should muck about trying to save a dollar! So I am going to buy the Epson AC Adapter. I have found out that I can buy it for $75.00 (I don,t know what that is in pounds ! ) and not only is it made for the camera but it,s input is 110v and 220v incase we visit England again ! Talking of England, where do you live ? I was born in London but came from Southend -on-sea,, but now we live in Beautiful British Columbia and my Wife and I love gardening, I grow lots of good veggies and my Wife grows flowers, are you married and do you like gardening? I also love my computer and spend about two hours every day on the internet, of course it costs next to nothing to be on the net and to send emails, in fact I am on what they call a Fiber Optics system, it is 100 times faster than the phone line ! AND it does not use my phone line so that I can use the phone while I am on the net, which is wonderful because if I have a problem a technician can talk to me on the phone and tell me what to do !. Anyway I talk too much so will let you go. Cheerio for now and a very merry Christmas to you and yours. Norman Howard. Email : normanhoward@home.com.
