Buy Canon Powershot S10 or Casio QV-2000UX?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Help! Does anyone have any compelling reason(s) to buy the Canon Powershot S10 over the Casio QV-2000UX or vice-versa? Both look like great cameras in a close price range, and the both support the IBM Microdrive. Or should I just go for a Nikon CoolPix 950 (more expensive) and forget about the Microdrive feature? I haven't seen too many sample pictures from the Casio to compare with the Canon. Hopefully, the "Comparometer" will be updated soon.

After all the research, I've got information overload of the brain. Your opinions will be most appreciated.

Thank you!

I can't comment on the Cannon or the Casio and the IBM microdrive looks great, but as an owner of the Nikon CP950 I am pleased with it.

Do you plan to take thousands of photos per day at high resolution and no compression? If not, then the Nikon with a 64meg card might suffice. It would seem resonable that larger cards will be offered some day. I have a 32 meg card and at 640x400 and basic jpg compression, I can store 800 photos to one card. I can 'download' this to my notebook in about 2 minutes. Takes longer to transfer the card from the camera to the notebook than download it. With 2 or more cards it work almost like film that you only buy once. Of course with no compresson and high resoluction I can only store about 6 pic per 32 meg card. I think I would put my money in more camera. The frills can be added later.

I just bought the Casio last week, and I am very pleased with it's image quality and the camera's features! I'm going to have to upgrade my video card and printer now!

I chose the Casio over the S-10 because the S-10 takes an expensive battery pack ($70!), and the Casio uses AAs.

One disadvantage to the Casio is that it's thicker than the S-10 and makes for a bulky pocket fit. The case that comes with the Casio has a belt loop to get around this.

For $500 at Computers4Sure.com, the Casio is a good choice.

The S10 has better image quality, the casio has more manual control, takes external flash, and has a bigger zoom.

The s10 is super small, so you can carry it everywhere, this is a really fantastic feature. I vote for S10.

Benoit stated that the S10 has better image quality than the Casio 2000UX but I have not seen anywhere that has images from the two of the same subject same conditions. Please enlighten me Mr. Benoit.
