A perfect compliment to the topozone.com site is Terraserver -- a site with aerial photographs of most of the nation. It is at:

terraserver.microsoft.com

If you haven't seen the terraserver lately, it has some nice additions. You can examine both USGS maps and photos of the same area and flip back and forth. Topozone has its advantages for getting maps, but terraserver is sort of nice.

There is an interesting web site announcing the availability of fairly high resolution (~1m) satellite photos from the Kronos satellite. Photos are commercially available. I don't know if this is at all useful for making maps, but it is sort of an interesting web site: KRONOS images (pick out example images from the KRONOS).
