Thanks - it's truly amazing. 10 pages of pop Y2K culture, everything from Y2K it's gonna be OK to Satan taking over, to the exploding personal prosthetic device. A veritable goldmine.

I thought this was kinda funny (with visions of cartoons dancing in my head) but it is kinda OT to this thread/forum:

British woman inflated like balloon by helium gas

Updated 6:40 PM ET December 10, 1999

LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman who accidentally punctured her thigh with a helium gas nozzle was inflated like a giant balloon in her London toyshop.

Samantha Munns, who fell on a nozzle used for blowing up children's balloons and was pumped full of helium, Thursday told reporters she thought she was going to explode.

"I felt faint and sick at first and then very worried and panicky about what might happen. I looked like I was five months pregnant," Munns said.

"Doctors gathered around me but they didn't know what to do. It's not every day they have a woman full of helium gas to treat," she added.

After scrapping the idea of puncturing her with needles, doctors eventually decided to let Munns' body naturally absorb the non-poisonous gas.

Munns, whose leg and abdomen had swollen to about twice normal size, was forced to wait two weeks while her body slowly deflated.

"I was thinking that if I died they would have to put me in a giant coffin and people wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry," she said.
