A visit to Wal-Mart

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I went to Wal-Mart mostly to see if there was any bargains and found a few really good items. White yarn was marked down to .50 a skien, I found polar fleece at 2.70 a yard grey only. I also found a manual coffee grinder for 14.99. I have been looking for one at a reasonable price. This one has a glass bowl atop a wooden base with a pull out drawer. The grinder is all metal and is very well made. It came with blue or pink flowers on the bowl. I opted for the blue. Add a bag of coffee beans and the grinder would make a great present for a GI friend. I have no GI friends around here so I just got the one for me. Ha Ha to them. ( I have acquired a mean streak during these last few months). I have run out of prep money, but I am still able to pick up on a good bargain now and again.

Hey Carol--what department of Wal Mart did you find the coffee grinder in? Thanks...

As a matter of fact, the grinders were stacked on a top shelf and none were displayed. The clerk who got mine from the top rack said they ran out of room so the grinders were just put there. I was in the coffee maker aisle. The grinders was supposed to be in with the Christmas gift aisle. Really they could be anywhere in the store! I found a web site that has the grinders so you could see the picture. They are selling for 29.99 on the site. http://www.for-her-eyes-only.com/h/pfaltzgraffaccents.html

Beej, the one I bought is the blue yorktown! The pink had the flowers, I did not pay that much attention to the design until now. Good luck at local Wal-Marts! Try other marts too.

Our Wal-Mart stopped selling the 25-pound bags of beans and the 25-pound bags of rice. They took the price markers off the shelves and won't be restocking rice or beans in those weights. I've been buying 25 pound sacks of beans and rice at Wal_Mart for over 5 years. My grocery store manager on the other side of town hasn't been able to get 25 pound sacks of beans for about 6 weeks now. He says he won't be able to get them any more either. "Won't be able to get them" -- he was very clear. He's prepping too.
