I'm an italian student of foreign languages. I'm doing my final thesis on Poe's William Wilson and especially about the theme of the double (split personality, conscience and so on...). What are you doing? Have you found some interesting themes about this short story? If you have discovered something else, please, send me an e- mail!! P.S.:Forgive my bad English! Plesase.

We n our sosies = our conscience. Casuistry matter.

You know how the principal of the school is also the pastor person at the church? Poe did this to give the readers an example of dual identity. Some people think that the two Willson's are two different people, but they are one and the same. The second Wilson is the narrator's conscience. This is an example of duel identity as well. Also, have you noticed that every time that the conscience atempts to stop William to do bad the lights get darker...(when he is playing poker and he enters, all the candels go out..his presence is FELT). William also meets his conscience in enclosed places...his bedroom, and the room at the Masquerade that they fought in was locked.
