IBM Microdrive-Batery Impact?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

If I use an IBM Microdrive, will this deplete batteries faster than a simple flashcard? If so, by how much?

Please email help to lew.taffer@aexp.com

Many thanks, Lewis

Lew, the only reference I have seen claims that the Microdrive draws about 400mA, or 10 times that of a CF card. That claim is made by one of the manufacturers of CF cards (Delkin ?). Do you also realize that the Microdrive is a CF type II device? It is not usable in cameras made for a standard Compact Flash card (type I).

I just got a 340MB Microdrive yesterday. I'm still waiting on delivery of my Nikon D1. The Microdrive certainly works well in my laptop. Amazing technology. I remember working on 192MB drives that were about the size of a washing machine, not that many years back.
