cpr finally answers question about SME's: If they fail, TOUGH!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

cpr has described the fact that over 1 million SME's have done nothing to prepare for Y2k a "MYTH". Pressed and pressed to answer the basic question of how, precisely, it is a "myth", he has finally, 6 weeks later, given his final kernel of wisdom, I guess, to wit:

"If 1 million SMEs fail. TOUGH."

Is this really the way Pollies think? Or is cpr a unique blend of doom zombie and Polly who can't make up his mind, and is totally clueless as to the implications of 1 million SME's going under simultaneously?

Does anybody really care? I wouldn't, except he pollutes my local forum with his trash daily...

Thankfully, I only have to put up with him for a few more days...

Patricia will go to the LIRR station where Junior's dispenses instant Heart Attacks and.....FIND 15 able bodied NYC/BROOKLYN TAXI DRIVERS.

We will get them free Net Access while they are munching their cheese cake and coffee and.........lock them into the path to EY's pit.

I confidently predict that within hours..........THE EY FORUM WILL RESEMBLE ..BEIRUT.

NOTHING CAN PREVENT THE SUCCESS OF THIS PLAN.

Many have tried to "discuss things" with the NYC Taxi Drivers and ALL HAVE FAILED. They will turn the Pit into a dust bowl.

Steve, let's reverse the tables a little bit here, alright? THIS BOARD continually seeks to either cast aspersions upon all news which speaks in positive tones about y2k via the labeling of it as spin or an effort to lull the masses---or deletes posts altogether. It seems to me you want to play both sides of the coin here.

Truthfully, I don't know what cpr is talking about in your thread-opener here, but I find it outrageous that any avowed doomer would make such ludicrous statements as seen here on a daily basis.

As for your line about 'pollies', a few notes: through reading and research (and not through double-talk, persuasion and pretzel logic) I seem to be migrating more and more towards that way of thinking. I still haven't seen any doom-wad present good enough arguments that would egt me back up onto the fence, let alone shifting camps. This site has a host of characters that have become uniquely adept at picking out bits and pieces of news (and much of it having little to do with y2k) and equating it either with problems, a cover-up or public relations maneuvering.

Lastly, your final line about having to put up with cpr for only a few more days is laughable. I sense that if January 1st comes and goes with few, if any incidents, the never ending cycle of doomlit prognostications will merely back up their visions of doom to a later 'flashpoint' date.

STeve, the cycle never ends, it seems, and most assuredly, we will be sentenced to hearing the miscellanous babblings of doom prognosticators who lead the frightened around by the nose for days and months to come.

Hopefully, cpr will be around to counter the tripe, as well.

Steve, I wouldn't want to generalize ANYTHING based on CPR. My limited reading of what he writes suggests to me that he is a real twisted sicko, hell bent on some kind of "save the world from those Y2K doomers" agenda. And, I wouldn't be surprised if he and his band of looney-toones have ended up HELPING the Y2K preparation cause, simply because so many people have reacted against such "polly-think", without ever really considering all the issues fairly.

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.cum), December 08, 1999.

Uh, yeah, 'King', but does he revise history as well as you? If the term 'sicko's' means continually calling doom leadership on the carpet for their erroneous predictions or the doom legion for their misplaced fears, then point me to the rubber room. And the 'sicko's' as you call them aren't such bad people. You don't hear them equating anyone in the doom camp with the citizenry of Germany, circa 1933 nor do you see them asking people to mud wrestle.

Sick, indeed.

In the United States, the big worry is small business. Small companies employ 53 million Americans, more than half the work force. But almost three in ten small businesses say they're taking no action against the Y2K bug.

Bill Weiller says that's shortsighted. He runs Purafil, a company that makes air cleaning systems. He says he didn't take Y2K seriously at first. Then the company discovered some of the equipment it sells was not compliant. Purafil upgraded the office and manufacturing systems.

Weiller says small businesses may be more dependent on technology then they realize.

"I think perhaps they don't realize the areas of vulnerability, same as I didn't. They may think if they make a simple product that's manual they probably can't see where their liability is."

Companies shouldn't expect all Y2K problems to show up on January 1.

According to Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah), "It's going to take several months for the whole thing to play out. And if we are in trouble, it will have to cascade and build over a period of several months and we won't really know until March or April of 2000."

-- (Smallbiz@nd.Y2K), December 08, 1999.

Bad Company, no amount of information about Y2K could ever change your mind because you are in total denial. You think you are so much smarter than the "doomers" and have this thing all figured out. Well buddy, you should read the report that the Senate Y2K Committee published this summer and read what the Red Cross has to say about Y2K preps. These are not "doomers" that you can ridicule, yet they think that Y2K could have a serious impact in 2000. Try doing a little research on the subject. Or maybe not. Your attitude is, "My mind is made up, don't confuse me with the facts!" Good luck in 2000.

-- Ohio Bob (ohiobob@buckeyestate.com), December 08, 1999.

Uh, Bob? Denial about what?????What are you talking about????Denial based upon research, Bob????Is this what you mean????Am I in denial because I won't put a lot of crednece in a Senate Report with findings that had been culled in many cases 6 months prior, Bob????Is this denial??? The Red Cross has always had my respect, Bob. They are there for people in the worst of adversity. real adversity, Bob. Have you seen real hardship or adversity Bob, or is your hardship in your head????Does the Red Cross tell you how to deal with anxiety, Bob? How about imagined fear????Does the Red Cross tell you to ignore news reporting because it doesn't validate your intellectually constipated mindset, Bob? Is mental impotence the reason why the doom crowd ignores the previous predictions and track records of their heroes, Bob???? Yeah.....denial is agood word for it, pal. Here's hoping you can do a little more balanced reading to get a look at the big picture you missed heretofore.

-- Bad Company (johnny@shootingstar.com), December 08, 1999.

cpr is a polly who holds mystical and magical powers. He uses these powers only for evil. His favorite use of these powers is to make doomers look crazy.

The fact that all of the projected failure dates have not materialized is because of cpr. He also makes non doomers unable to see the chemtrails or the the UN troops hiding out in the subways of big cities. These UN troops are really there, but somehow he makes them invisible to the DGIs.

There is even a rumor circulating that the indigenous people of Bora Schmora have developed a cult that worships cpr, and they are all pollys by the way.

The media, government, Red Cross, Steve Hewitt, and even Jerry Falwell have all fallen under cpr's spell, and there is nothing we can do about it. Trillions of people will die Jan 1st and he will merely laugh about it. Unless of course he makes sure nothing happens (which he might do in order to make the GIs look like idiots).

Fascinating to hear that one of the doomer posters to this thread (Bob) uses, as his prima facie evidence of the assuredness of TEOLAWKI on Jan 1st . . .

1) A 6 months old report, published out of date (like computer manuals, theyre out of date when they go to press), written by a bunch of politicians, who supposedly are bent on a spin-NWO-martial law- unconstitutional take over of the world. (according to the norms of this forum) . .

and

2) A recommendation by the Red Cross, a fine body who's mission and raison d'etre is the assistance of those at most risk from any peril, and who therefore would no doubt, under any circumstances Y2K related or otherwise, recommend 2 weeks worth of general survival preparations to be on hand for EVERY MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC WITH LESS THAN $1MILLION IN THE BANK, and some of those who are that fortunate.

A concrete case . . pass me a tinfoil hat please.

Well, well, poking around in my directories, trying to get a "search feature" up and running ya know, and what do I find? DavePrime ducking in late to post. Take a break here and respond to ya Dave-o.

What you maybe unable to understand is that the MENTALITY so common on a TB2000, COULD lead to a Hitler rerun. Your keyword is COULD. Look at what the mind-set is over there. And I believe common among many beyond the niche of Y2k. Could include the gun-freaks, gold-bugs, NWO-maniacs, ultra right-wing goons, World Net daily type reader, "conservative talk radioheads", you know, all your I AM SICK OF IT ALL UP 2 HERE, AND CLINTON AND THEM ARE TO BLAME! The whiner brigade who have been brainwashed to think we live in the 1950's or as far back as North, the Colonial Period.

Take just ONE of these TARGETS, say the NWO(new world order). Who of a sane mind does not think the new information technologies of this new paradigm, does not DEMAND a new alignment of governance? I would submit it ALREADY has and what the NWO noise IS, is but a REACTION to what already IS the reality. For recorded time, there has always BEEN an effort by someone to DOMINATE the world. The absolute irony of todays' world is, the RULER is and will BE access to information--WORLD FREEDOM. Truth will RULE.

TB2000 types are out-dated, scared, hopeless people who feel DONE WRONG. Their failure lies in the mirror, not OUT THERE. They have failed to properly PROSPER, and are merely SURVIVING. Some are spolied rotten and seek a cleansing of their err. Milne, Yourdon, and a Diane *sigh* would fit this bill. They live from old ill-gotten gains and DO NOT want it to stop. The new reality "threatens" their "lifestyle". In private they do not REALLY live this way, only play like they do for others. These are the ruler type cult member. The more common are the working-class stiffs who live paycheck to paycheck. They LIKE Capitalism, never done them much good, but they LIKE IT. Hitler was a Capitalist, also a Facist. I tend to think they be similar. Lost in all this renaming, and spin-doctoring is the concept of FREE ENTERPRISE. Cept competition is NOT a good thing if you be the one with the eggs. So one's best defense is to condition your customers into the role of sheep/CONSUMERS. Not "partners" in commerce, DUPES. No better group of saps can be found but the card-carrying Sam's Club/Wal-Mart/Costco jokers that inhabit TB2000. These suckers are so lame, they PAY to shop, hello. May make sense, and I am a Costco member, but the original reason for the membership has now become some stamp-of-deals to most of the sheep best seen at TB2000. I joined years ago for business purposes, this was the intent of the club-stores originally-their way around the FTC rules , no more. They are now outlets of monopolies who have spent much time and effort to condition their sheep to pay-to-shop, provide zero customer service, basically treat-em and herd-em like the COWS they are. Insane part is, the COWS think it all just peachy. This conditioning is typical of how you turn a society inside-out. These whiners claim they want a return to real values(all around), but make a beeline to the low/price action like flies to cow-shit. They actually believe things are NOT valued properly. They think a bottle of Tylenol is OVER_PRICED if bought in civilized surroundings in 3 minutes at Rite-Aid, compared to a hour in the circus that is a club-store. Besides, at Rire-Aid you mey get to "chat" with Skippy the 16 year-old stockboy and male-bond, you know, old-fashioned crap like that. At a Costco, one would be "lucky" if one even SAW a freaking employee not taking money or checking a reciept or card(IDs).

"There is a feeling undefined"...Don Henley [End of the Innocence] song just about sums-up our times. Many are displaced, lost, and feel out of control. They want a return to a time when things were simpler and slower. Unfortunately for losers, they whine, bitch, point-fingers, and bring into their reality a world which mirrors these compulsive thoughts. To one watching, these people appear INSANE. Truth is, they are, thus lies the danger. Once enough of these types, or those of similar "mind-set" band together, as like a cult, you have the foundation for a Hitler repeat.

You tell me Dave, do most on TB2000 have contempt for Bankers? the Media? Would you also think many like that also believe these industries operated by Jews? aside from Ted Turner etc? If we have a Dow3000 and a TEN YEAR depression, I think we pretty close to a re-run, a GENE POOL cleansing as the wackos call it.

So before you spout off again and point your TV Tube finger to us, please do the MENTAL WORK ahead of time. If done you will not have to "wonder why" this type of a thread exists below. My opinion is the thread is TAME to the extreme, a parody of a situation I feel is dead-serious. I know you will not get it, but that figures now doesn't it.

This be a sliver of the issue Dave, Y2k is merely NOISE my friend. A major sliver, but one of many involving the drama:::dead-men walking and who will they take with them on their trip to hell.

Report: 1.5 million small businesses ignore Y2K

Kent Hoover

Up to 1.5 million small business owners won't take any steps to address the Year 2000 computer problem before Jan. 1, according to the National Federation of Independent Business.

The new estimate is based on an October Gallup Organization survey of businesses with fewer than 100 employees. It's significantly higher than NFIB's April estimate "because virtually no additional small business owners undertook Y2K compliance efforts during the intervening six-month period," says the report by the NFIB Education Foundation.

Many small businesses have been convinced that Y2k is no big deal. And that's sad.

Umm, 'Longer Memory', maybe your nick should be 'Selective memory'. How does that leather taste this morning.Harsh Reality's post puts it all nicely under the microscope, as did Y2KPro's last night. That's the point, really. Instead of masquerading as a group of people so into the idea of piously looking for the truth, why not come clean and tell it like it is: many here have shaped their opinions on innuendo, rumor and faulty predicitons and have no bonafide facts to support those views. Moreover, this 'element; is willing to ridicule, flame and engage in grotesque, neanderthal behavior to validate their intellectually vapid philosophies.

A step down from there, it seeems quite apparent that this group would be the first to talk the tough talk like little kids in junior high (see above posting by Harsh reality). Like those children, it is often the tough talkers that end up picking up their teeth when the bluff is called and the true, thinking heroes are around to be the leaders.

The self-righteousness here continues to be amazing. Save your one-sided viewpoints for people like Ohio Bob. He seems to relish hearing one side of the story.

Debunkerite N. Arro posted this at Debunking Y2K on October 17 this year:

Now the sociopaths over at The Dark Side increasingly sound like apologists for a new Hitler. Just think about it for a moment...

GN would be a good Hitler--clueless but with a fascinating power to mesmerize the masses with his words.

Milne subs for Himmler--utter sadistic contempt for anyone who doesn't belong to "the party."

EY makes a fine Goering--intelligent, articulate, intellectually elusive, but basically a disingenuous dope because he fell for GN's BS.

Cory equals Goebbels, sort of. He has his high pitched shrieks of propaganda. But Goebbels was willing to die for the cause; Cory will chicken out.

JL could be Rudolph Hess--not too bright and defected to the enemy when he figures the fight is lost.

And of course there are the the oppressed masses chanting "Heil Gary" as they goose step to their double wides in the woods.

I just can't remember any of Hitler's kooks that kept saying *sigh.* Any suggestions?

Harsh Reality, your point is well made. Few things can get doomers so excited as fantasies about having DGIs coming crawling for handouts. Although you are quite right about these comments being a reflection of the moral turpitude of GIs, I think it goes farther than that. It is an essential part of the Y2K Meme, the anticipation that Y2K will be the great leveller. Many polls regarding preparations have shown that there is a high correlation (inverse) between income/ education and the likelihood of pessimistic Y2K views. For many people Y2K represents the last, best chance for revenge on an economic system that has marginalized them.

I also think this means that this attitude will not go away when the reality of the rollover nullifies these aspirations. It will simply shift to some other venue - globalization, illegal refugees, the "ponzi" stock market, new world order, etc.
